paint question
so I had my bumper repainted and it looks pretty damn good. But the body dude told me they didn't polish the paint, and they didn't clear coat it. Like I said it looks pretty damn good and it's not like the rest of my paint is in great condition -
so technically should they have polished the paint and then applied a clear coat, and do I risk having the paint dull faster without the clear coat?
they warrantied the paint for 3 years

a local place here in the bay area...the shop was recommended by some friends
I do notice the paint is not as reflective as the rest of my car...like the hood. the reflection is less detailed. I was hoping for a new almost stock finish on the bumper...
but it's a lot better now than before. Someday I'll paint the entire car

Call them up and asked them what they used. Ususally, the way base/clearcoat works is the base is flat there is no shine whatsoever. The shinyness comes out as you apply the clearcoat. The more layers of clearcoat, the shinyer. Enamel uses a reducer. The slower the reducer, the better quality of the paint. Enamel is some what similar to the base/clearcoat method. Only difference is, there is no clear coat. Buffing will bring the shine out. Also, the more layers of enamel, the shinyer the paint.

Our cars come factory with base/clear finish, and they should have refinished with B/C. It sounds like they used a single stage paint. You don't get as nice a finish with SS if you don't wetsand, and polish. Sounds sketchy to me.
Take that shit back homie. Our cars have a clearcoat, and your repainted area should too. It'll fade a lot faster with no clearcoat, as it offers protection. Also helps the car look better. I'd take it back and tell em u want it to factory specs.
Actually, it has to have clearcoat on it...it wouldn't be shiny if it didn't right? I just know the guy said they didn't polish it. Does that mean i can just get a rotary buffer on it?
maybe I'll just take it back

It could be shiny if they painted it with enamel. Enamel dosen't need clear coat to make it shiny. They usually buff the enamel out to make it shiny. More of the old school guys use enamel.
