oil drain plug

i just got back from the dealer and they said they cant change my oil since the drain plug is "stripped" and they would need to change the oil pan. grr.. i am a novice at auto repair, is there any other way for me to drain the majority of the oil? if i take out the oil filter will most of it drain that way? any way to siphon it? or is the dealer just trying to make a quick buck?

bring it somewhere else, obviously they are too stupid to get it out... I've had a stripped drain plug bolt and I got it out myself...

hey yossi, if you can drive down to North Brunswick, I will do it for you for free. I don't know how far you are from North brunswick. Just buy a replacement drain plug, if you want you can buy the oil and oil filter or else I can fill you up from my stock.

PM me is intrested. I will not charge you for this, but ofcourse if you are using my stock of oil and filter just pay me for that.

maybe they are referring to the threading of the plug on the pan itself that is stripped? can that be why they say it needs to be replaced?

how would they know that the pan thread is stripped if they have not yet unscrewed the drain bolt???? I was thinking more on the line of the drain plug bolt head being stripped. But if it is the thread then you might need to replace the pan whihc is also easy and do able, but then you need to buy a pan gasket and a new drain plug...or else go to a junk yard and pick up an oil pan from a 94-97 accord whihc has a 2.2 or 2.3 engine....those should fit pretty easy....

guys chime in if I am wrong with the cross fit info....

but you will definately need a new gasket....

I will do the swap for you.... let em know...

to answer your question, yes the thread on the drain plug might be stripped that is reason why they said that it needs to be replaced.....but I am still curious how did they find out hat it is stripped if they have not even unscrew the dame thing??????

Well in any case, get a pan from a junnk yard, new gasket and new drain plug and you should be set????

there are also some quick fix solutions out there but you will have to go to a pep boys or some kind of auto store to find out what type of quick fix is avaliable....but I would advise against it....

If the drain plug is stripped, they can still get it out, they should only have to replace the pan if the pan's threads are stripped or crossthreaded. Take it somewhere else

Maybe give locking clamps a try? but I would even try a place like jiffylube to see if they can get it off before replacing the whole pan. but definately buy a new plug before getting it changed so this wont happen to you again. Who did the oil change before?
