Hey what kind of oil brands do you guys/girls use in your CL's. I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1 synthetic. Anyone have any other reccomendations.......??

I switched to Mobil 1 last week, after running it with regular oil for 35,000 miles, and the first thing that I noticed (maybe my imagination) is that it ran smoother, and started better...

I run Castrol syntec blend, I did notice a diffrence but it just was a little one maybe a little smoother. Its a hell of alot more expensive though!

I use Mobil 1, it may be $4 a quart, but hey, pay more now, or a lot later. I also noticed it running a little smoother. My friend races his firebird cs6 against bimmers and lambighini's, and he has always used mobil 1, he swears by it.

Anyone know if there are any problems with switching to a synthetic? My car had 22,000
miles on it when I bought it and it was a leased vehicle, so I assume the owner didn't use a synthetic.

i have no idea what went in my car but i bought it with 35000 miles on it. i'be put only mobil 1 in it since. except for my last change they were all out so i got mobil drive clean blend and my car seems not be be running so smooth. maybe it is actually cleaning up the engine and thats why. i have no idea but i dont like it so far.

You can switch between oil brands with no problem, it will not void the warrantee as long as the oil you use has an approved SPI rating. I don't know of any major band that does not meet it. Also if you want to use a synthetic for the first time, I would suggest first flushing the motor then changing the oil to synthetic. The greatest benefit of synthetic is no sludge build up

I've been using regular oil, but at my next oil change i'll be switching to Royal Purple. Its better than Mobil1 (better additives) and a little more expensive on the retail market. (but i can get it much cheaper b/c my company is now a distributer for RP's industrial lubricants )

A good synthetic oil will micro-polish off asperities on the metal surfaces of the engine. i.e. it cleans and smooths the engine's internals. Also, with the right additives, it won't break down as quickly as conventional oil, and runs with less friction. Therefore you get more HP and better fuel economy.

Because it bonds on surfaces after shutting down the engine, you get instant lubrication at startup.
