use the search button to find this very common question. you will hear this alot as a noob. Trust me. But as a rule, the trannies on auto cl's are prone to suck ass. Search for other info. Welcome, man. CL's are the shit.

well it depends on what you are going to do with your CL. if you just want it as a daily driver, i would suggest getting a 2.X manual. if you decide later on that you want to mod your car, you have more options with the 2.X.

if you get a 3.0, start a fund for when your tranny craps out.

i love my 3.0, but i have noticed it starting to slip once in awhile

the little bit of reading i did, I noticed alot of auto tranny threads
I would prefer to get a stick but its for my fiance and she wants an auto,
anyways thanks for the heads up, any general mileage that the 3.0 trannys take a dump and does the CL share its auto tranny with any other acura or honda vehicle?
thanks

Talking I love my CL, "The Mistress"

The CL shares many parts with the Accord EX V6. As for the automatic transmission, it's problems have as much to do with how you drive and your maintanance habits as with its cheaply-made internal parts. My '98 3.0 CL premium's tranmission bit it at 96K. although, in all those miles, and with some serrious horspower increase modifications, the previous owner never had it serviced. I have spoken on this a few times. Many people think the owner's manual is over doing it to say that you should change your ATF every 15K, every 4th oil change or once a year. But, now that I have a new transmission, I plan to do the ATF flush every September (the aniversary of when my old one died). Other than that, the car has been PERFECT. Don't let the transmission issue scare you. If you pay attention, you can get one with the problem already fixed, or get one that has been well cared for.

Good luck.

Talking Cool in KS...

Excellent back seat room. The first weekend I had mine, my Dad and his wife came down and I took them and my wife to lunch. My Dad is 5'11" and he had no problem in the back... I am 6'3" and just for kicks I go back there. It was fine, unless the front seat was too far back, but I have long legs and that problem hits me in almost any back seat. Great space for kids or normal height adults. By the way, Dad lives in Walton, KS. I pass through Wichitaw at least once every two moths or so. Good luck with the Black CL. Mine was also originaly from Texas. what a funny coinsidence. David McDavid ACURA in, I think it was Plaino or something like that. Oh, the Mistress is my '98 Cardith Blue/green pearl CL premium. Just washed her tonight... man she looks hot. Even had some old guy come ask me about her befor I was done. They are real nice, you would do great to get your woman one.

Those Saturn cars suck.... My wife took the Mistress to the shop for an oil change. On her way back, some kid in an SL1 hit her from behind. It did about $500 in damage to my bumper and about $2000 in damage to his front end. I figure the CL is pretty tough to cave the front end of a Saturn like that. Barely really scuffed the clearcoat on mine, folded the hood on his. hahahahaha Served that turd right, needed to learn to drive... You know, if someone stops in front of you, you have to stop too. lol lol.

Your Daughter and her car seat will fit fine.

Yeah, my sister has a 98 saturn and backed into the back of mine in the driveway. Maybe a 5 mile an hour hit, but it sure hit hard. I thought my bumper was screwed up and I ran out to see what happened. There was NO damage to my car, but the paint was wrinkled on myi sisters bumper.

If you gonna get the 3.0, just ask the owner if they had any tranny work done. Other than the trans you won't have any major issues with your CL.

Mine went at 75 or 80K...before I owned it. I'm almost 103 now and she's smooth. mine's completely stock and will move when you want it to. the 3.0 vtec is a nice plant. 33-34 on the highway, cruise control at 70.
