My window died.

Tonight Brad rolled down his window about five inches, and about two minutes later we stopped at a light and he tried to roll it down the rest of the way and it wouldn't budge. We thought I had accidentally locked it, but I hadn't. It just stopped. So we took the car to a friend's house (after parking it at the AIRPORT of all places to pick my sister up), and they figured out how to get it to roll down, but it won't go up. So my baby is in the garage with a missing tooth.

I mean, I have to go to work , a Blink 182 concert, and the beach tomorrow... I was planning to leave straight from work to go to the concert, straight from the concert to go to the beach, and I was gonna spend a week at the beach, all with my Bunny, but she's sick... so I have to wake up early and beg the Acura dealer to fix her ASAP.

Also, to top it off, I can't find my damn tickets to the concert! I have no idea what I'm gonna do if I really lost those tickets.

<---Sad today.

Oh yeah, and I'm not on warranty anymore, so I'm gonna have to pay out my ASS to get this damn window fixed.

Damn that sucks! I guess this is one o the few drawbacks to our cars

Hope you have fun at the concert and beach and what not. Mabey that will help you get your mind off your car. And if you lost the tickets you could always just take some from a 13 year old at the gate. There will be plenty of them there.

Did you take a look and see what was wrong? I had something similar happen to me.. I went out to Bloomington, IN to visit some peeps at IU... rolled down my window, and it was stuck. I was able to push it back up so it closed. Only reason I attempted this was because it was starting to rain What happened was that some of the weather stripping near the sideview mirror had ripped off and got lodged between the window and the door. Eventually this little peice totally ripped off and the window would move again. Unfortunately, it then leaked water in that spot The dealer ended up replacing the weather stripping and it's all good now.

Just curious if it was a motor/regulator thing or something else like my situation.

I had my window die. I had to replace the motor. Cost me like 150, with install. My dad got me 20% off on the parts.

sorry to hear bout your baby angel... Do you hear trhe motor run at all when you push the button or no? does the other window work? if you dont hear the motor and if the other window works, you blew the motor/arm of the window. if you hear motor noise, you dislocated the arm from its track. if you hear nothing and neither window works, check your fuse!!! well i hope it all works out....

The motor is still running, the window just doesn't move. I had to take it to my dad's work today, which is about 40 miles from my house, and the sky was just dark grey; I was SO scared that it was gonna rain and my windows freaking wide open...

But it didn't rain, and my dad's gonna get the thing fixed and pay for it thru the company (and before you bleeding heart ethics junkies say anything, my dad OWNS the company so he is perfectly within his rights to say it's one of his cars)...

The downside is that I had to drive the Malibu to work (it was a choice of the Malibu or one of the F-150s, and I didn't think I could handle a giant truck, so its a Malibu for me...) and my dad is driving my car home tonight.... let us all pray that he doesn't bend my wheels....

That sucks, at least it will all work out for you.

My fingers are permanently deformed from crossing them everytime I open my windows, they are slow and I'm just waiting for the day they break.

I rarely ever roll down my windows (save for the occasional drive-thrus) but now that I think about it, they do operate fairly slow. Now y'all have got me worrying (knock on wood!). Angel, let us know how much they ding ya for to fix it... just in case some of us are in that predicament in the future. Thanks.

Well I'll never know cuz I'm not paying for it. Sorry. I think it's really expensive tho; I've heard people talk about hundreds of $$ to get the motor replaced.

I'd tell you, but when my dad pays for stuff, he won't tell me how much it is... don't ask me why, I couldn't tell ya.

You can get an after market warranty if your factory warranty has already expired. Otherwise, if your current warranty is still in-tact, you can buy the extended from Acura anytime before the end of your warranty. I would suggest it for these little things. Nothing like a little piece of mind knowing you don't have to replace something big like the tranny or somewhat minor like a window motor!

Esp since now I'm all paranoid since mine expired. (SIGH)

We've beaten the extended warranty issue to death before, but here I go again:

An extended warranty is like an insurance policy. Basically, you're betting that something on your car will break that costs more than what you spend on the warranty, and Acura's willing to take the bet that it won't. Economically, you have to side with Acura here. They wouldn't sell the things if they didn't make money off of them.

Just like insurance, though, you're also buying peace of mind. If something really expensive does break, you're covered. But think about how many $150 window motors would have to break to make the $800 or so warranty worthwhile. Acuras are tremendously reliable cars!

One last thing to keep in mind is that the extended warranty is NOT simply an extension of the bumper-to-bumper warranty you got when you bought the car new. It only covers major mechanical failures. If you develop a squeaky dash, or the paint starts peeling off your windshield wipers, or your cruise control button cracks, etc., you will still have to pay. Those are considered "normal wear items".

So before you lay out the cash, do a little cost/benefit analysis. Maybe the best advice I've heard is to take the money you would have spent on an extended warranty and put it in a money market or some other safe investment. If you need the money to fix something, you've got it available. If not, you've made a nice little profit on the money (rather than giving that nice little profit to Acura).

Ok, that helps to put things into perspective. We've owned numerous Honda products and they've all been dead reliable. That's almost exactly what my dad told me when I approached him about it. Besides, I still have the basic warranty for my powertrain and my corrosion stuff. Anyway, the way I see it is, if it breaks, it breaks. I mean, heck, it's almost 5 years old. Thanks for the help.

Well, may I interject? Angel... if dad is paying for it then take it to the dealer! That way it'll get done faster and you won't have any problems. I know if I were in your shoes that I'd want it over and done with ASAP! In any event, have fun crusin in the Malibu. LOL

When Dad pays for it, Dad finds his own source of repair... he's got a "guy" that does this stuff, and they guy found that the cable is broken, and the Acura dealer says that that problem is very common with our car, and they're backordered on the part to fix it right now, so it will take an unspecified amount of time to get the part in and have it fixed, so the window is up, and it's taped up, and my dad's just gonna keep it at his work until the part comes in, and then the guy will fix it.. Lucky for me I don't have to go to work; I'm just gonna leave it there for a while. *sigh*.

BY THE WAY, THIS IS MY LAST POST UNTIL I COME BACK FROM THE BEACH ON AUGUST 3RD! HAVE A GOOD WEEK, GUYS! :d
