Nah, I'd rather keep rotor wear to a minumum plus I won't even be able to afford these for another month or two, the 18's are $400 more.

I didn't know bigger wheels cause rotor wear - unless you're talking about added rolling weight

I've heard that the bigger the wheels, the more weight, more strain on the rotors. That's just what I've heard, I'm new to this sh1t. Really I'm going 17 because they're a lot cheaper.

an average 18 inch wheel is going to weigh more than the 16 stock ones so there is DEF more rotor and pad wear -- i could tell with stock rotors and pads --braking at high speed was def noticble - but much better now with new rotors and pads.
think hard about your decision to go with 17s instead of 18s. your ride will be better yes and they will be cheaper, but if i had bought 17s 3 years ago, I would be mad as hell now. if you can be patient and wait for the additional $400 i think you'll be happier in the long run - just my opinion
good luck with either (-:

probably more pad wear than rotor wear, but if you are switching to heavier wheels, then you'll brake slightly harder and this will cause your rotors to heat up more, true, and increase warping. but if you have soft pads, you're really not causing too much actual surface wear.

as for 17's vs 18's....man, I remember back in the day when I thought 16's where big. I only have 17's but I'm old school - but my girl is getting 19's on her CLK so what do I know

Yeah dude. You're going to regret it. I know too many people who got 17's and not 18's because they didn't have the money. They went ahead and got 18's eventually anyways. Besides when you tell someone you're riding on 18's they're like WHOA! and when you tell them you have 17's they're like "cool". Just think about it.

go with 18. for the most part, 17's are ususally only chosen over 18's because of performance issues (weight causing slower acceleration, longer braking distances...) but the last time i checked, the CL was not a race car, it's a cruise missle. go with 18s, they'll look soooo much better

My sister has 17's on her 2.2 and they're too small for me, thats why I ordered 18's! That model wheel is ok, but I order The Katana VR6 18's in bronze! My car is black by the way. And another thing, if you're thinking about lowering it with 17's you'll still have a gap unless you get coilovers and screw them all the way down. 18' s would be prime.

one more thing, the 18's will allow for better handling, provided you get good tires. less sidewall = stiffer transition
