I need a Camber Kit
I need a camber kit for my '98 Acura CL 3.0...I have tokico gas shocks and eibach prokit. I just got quoted $840 for that job and there is no way i'm paying that! They said it was because that if i got just the kit that the arm would hit the wheel well??? Is this true...any info would greatly be appreciated....thanks....
Well it depends on what you want and what you have. I have a 97 with the pro kit and tokico illumnas and I had no problems when I kept the stock tires... but when I switched to Yokohama AVS dbs, I had bad tire wear (inside feathering). I found out that these tires were not designed well for our type of suspension. In short, your tires will wear unevenly but you may not notice it. If you add the camber kit you will have more even tire wear (read -- your tires will last longer).
I had the Ingalls camber kit installed, and yes, they need to pound or grind the insides of the front fender well (part of the unibody -- not the actual fender). After the installation of the camber kit -- I did notice that it lowered the car about a half an inch more.
I had the camber kits installed initally because of the tire wear problem I had with the Yokomo's. But now I'm glad I did it because I noticed that the car is way more stable at high speeds.

I do need a camber kit, I have a negative camber of about 1.6 all around. I have noticed major tire wear on the inside of tire, the inside had no tread, while the outside was still like new. I have 205/50/16 on my car now, but stock is 205/55/16. I can see that little of a difference would make the tires wear even if I went back to stock. I have ordered stock size tires which sould be here soon, but are you saying if I go back to stock tire size I will not need a camber kit????
I rode on the stock for about 20k. The stock tires were designed with a harder compound and the wear was not as noticeable. I did notice a slight uneven wear.
If your current tires are wearing as bad as you described... yes you do need a camber kit. With stock or aftermarket tires.

you may and may not need a camber kit. You won't really know until you get the car aligned and they tell you.
is 850$ for the shocks, springs and installation? Or just for the shocks and springs?

no, you most likely will still need a camber kit.

First time I ever heard of someone with the Eibach Prokit needing a camber kit. You buy your springs new or were they used and someone just told you they were the Eibach Prokit? Everyone I know, including myself that have installed Eibach Prokit just needed an alignment after the install.

how far are you from West Covina? I took my car over to some alignment shop over there called Bear Alignment. They work on offroad trucks and stuff. They make a custom camber kit for you 160 and you are out the door. This is what I did.
it is on arrow highway. My camber was off like 4 degrees and they got it perfect.
Some shops will not tell you that you are off by ___ degrees. Some times they don't want to explain that you need to spend more $$$ on a camber kit and a re-alignment. I know this because my friend owns a shop. You would think that the shop wants to make more money... But sometimes it's not worth the hassle. Especially if your camber is off by a tiny bit. They see it as wear that would not be very noticeable... this is why some shops don't give you the before and after readouts.
Be careful of the shops such as "Bear Frame and Alignment". I don't know how they operate now. They used to work on alot of american cars with Frames. When you do aligments on cars that can't be aligned with ordinary alignment tools, then you need to bend the frame. Hondas are unibody (no frames, nothing should be bent). When "ghander" mentions a custom camber kit for $160, I would make sure of what you will be getting. Custom work is typically real expensive (read--$$$$ for labor and designing).
-- "ghander" I'm not trying to "dis" you but what was the "custom camber kit"?

they do a little custom bending and mending. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it was recommended by a few people who i've worked w/ in the past. Alot of my buddies use them for their off road vehicles. I believe they build a custom shim. I'm not saying it's the most professional or safest way, but i haven't had problems yet and none of my friends have. It was basically the only solution I had to fixing 3.5+ degrees of camber. I tried a few different camber kits and none of them met my needs. So I went the cheap route.
and like you mentioned, it's important to find a shop that does a before and after readout.

That progress kit is a terrible kit. I had purchased one for $150. I never had it installed. The front looked okay, but it was non-adjustable. It also had poly bushings. Poly bushings are great for handling but they will squeek (make noise) in a month (even with the proper grease. The rears are two bolts and a few shims (washers). When I looked at that I thought "man what the".
I would recomend Ingalls. I got mine for $250 (includes shipping) from Ultra Performance (Arizona). You can find their ads in any of the popular import magazines. Get the kit with the rubber bushings (my recomendation). Do some research on the internet.
If your mind is set on the Progress, try Island Motorsports in Buena Park (CA). I bought mine for $150, about two-three years ago. Or I can sell you mine for $120. I installed the rears, but the fronts have never been installed.

i didn't like the progress either (never put them on). Ingalls seems the way to go. Check out Ebay, there is always a set for sale.
wingman, how much were you able to go? 2.5?

ghander,
I'm only about 1.8"(lowered) ... I live and work around Downtown LA. The streets are real bad in the area. I had originally Progress springs (lowered about 2 1/4"). Kept on bottoming out on dips on the 110 Freeway. Had to raise it.
KulCL3.0,
Call Ultra Proformance. Their website is not designed for ordering. Here's their toll free number 877-438-5872. Do your research first then call them. They weren't very helpful, as far as tech question go (must have got a newbe, when I called). You need to give them a part number.
I searched everywhere in Southern California, I could not find any companies that stocked the right kit.
Here's the site for Ingalls. If you have any other questions please ask.

I'm searching ebay and other places for ingalls...just curious though a friend of mine said that progress were pretty good and reliable...what makes you guys say that they are bad if you have never actually put the whole camber on?? The one I want have the arms and everything. Thanks this far for the help, it's really helped!
The picture your looking at is a misrpresentation of the CL kit. The Kit that you may be looking at is the Civic Kit. That kit includes the front arms. Unless they changed it. Ask your friend.
Anyways, the Progress kits do not allow for adjustments. It has two predetermined camber degree corrections... so...your degree error (or misalignment) needs to fall within those two degrees. In any case it will not be purfect, because it will not allow your alignment guy to precisely "dial in" the correction.
Please remember: make you own decision. I'm here to guide you with my experience. You may come across problems that I didn't have.

hey ghander I have my car's camber done the same way as you. Ive been riding around on that system for about 1 1/2 yrs now and there is absolutely no unever wear at all. I think its better than a camber kit cause mine only cost me $269. I think the way they do it is they bend the front control arm along with a combination of shims to fix the camber issues. Its great cause there are no kits to buy no matter how low you go. I had my car dropped close to 2.8 inches before and I never had to install a kit and I dont have to worry about it getting out of camber. Now my car can be aligned at any old shop.
Hey, i might buy some H&R springs...(used) the front drop is 1.7" and the back is 1.5"....does ANYONE know ANYTHING about H&R springs?? good or bad??
IF i drop the front 1.7 and the back 1.5...WILL I NEED A CAMBER KIT?? Can i use the stock shocks??????

HOw can i tell if i need a camber kit??
(the setup if from JaysCl...he said he didnt need a camber kit and hes got the same 97' 3.0 that i have... (will this mean sence he didnt need one, that i wont either or is every car different??)

every car is different from diff suspension and install. Go to like sear and get a readout of your camber, it's like 10-20 bucks. It will tell you where your camber is at, it should be between 0-1 degree.
i have the sportlines with the tokico and im an an ingalls camber kit .... U DONT NEED THE REAR BAR THINGY !!!! im down 2 + and the regular kit was fine ... and i paid 200 for the alignment and camber kit install ... theres no way u should pay anymore than 300
ok...say i did put on springs that lowerd my cl 1.75 in the front and 1.5 in the back...and say i needed a camber kit...how long could i drive without a camber kit before haveing enough $ to put one on???
Also, ive heard INgalls is the best camberkit to get..but what about Eibachs suspension alignment camber kit? is that any good??

you can drive around with your car's tired cambered in, but the tires will wear uneven and quicker on the side that it is wearing on. I heard eibach were good but everyone has ingalls, i'm trying to figure out what to go with
for real guys...we need to figure this out........im on sportlines and agx's and have been for quite a few months......im doing fine but i know i need a good camber kit and a nice alignment....so whats a good recommendation for a reasonable price?
