How to unplug things... console/dash/interior removal

So I recently went on a quest to find the serial number to my stock blose HU after it read "C0de" and in the process discovered how difficult it was. I wasn't successful in getting the center console plood trim off completely, just only enough to pull the radio out a bit to get the serial number. In theory, it seemed easy enough, but I always got hung up by cables connecting to switches in the center console. There are several including hazard lights, clock and the heated seats. I can see that they are connected via plugs, but cannot for the life of me figure out how they disconnect. They don't just simply pull out and I'm thinking there are retainers that are holding them and they "snap" together when connected. I've read FAQ's and posts about removing the console and dash, but no one elaborates on how to exactly unplug the switches... they just SAY to unplug the switches.

The question is... How do I safely unplug these? Brute force? There's gotta be a way to get that center console trim out without ripping out wires in such a manner, ne? I'm wanting to invest time in cleaning the entire interior of the car including removal of the rear deck, seats, dash, panels, headliner, etc, but don't wanna hose something up without first being prepared for what I will face. I've searched and searched, but would really appreciate some input from people who have this info off the tops of their heads. It would greatly help in getting all info in a concise manner and maybe produce a complete interior remove DIY in the future since I don't find one at present. Whoever had my car before me must've enjoyed spilling soft drinks in the center console and had long hair as I find gumminess and hair in nooks and crannies. I want to remove as much of the interior as I can to 1) deep-clean the car to a "clean slate" by getting as deep into it as I can and 2) familiarize myself with the inner layout for future DIY of audio upgrades and such.

Has anyone successfully remove their entire interior and/or is there a DIY on this? Thoughts please, I'm going crazy!!

Helps to R-E-A-D posts before making a reply questioning it

Thanks for the effort, but I had already found and utilized that thread when digging for the serial number on the HU The installdr process, while helpful, didn't really match 100% for the 99 CL (of which I own). Still haven't found anything specific to my question, that's why I asked the board. Could you maybe elaborate on these "plastic clips" like where exactly on the plugs they are and how many? Since the plood does't come out very far I have limited view of these things and would like to be able to feel them out by touch if necessary. Thanks for the help!

see the plastic harness piece, the thing that connects to a switch or what have you, theres gonna be a little nub sticking out on one side of it, push that down and pull out, that little nub is basically a locking clip to make sure it doesnt pop out on accident, puxhing it down in essence releases the lock

There are tabs, you most likely will have to feel them out, but there's one tab per wiring harness, they push in and the wire harness pops right out

Taking the interior out is just a giant reverse puzzle, you need to look for the little tabs and whatnot holding it all together. I'd go pull the interior out of my CL for a how to but I believe the 97 and 99's are just a little different. Had the entire interior on the floor of the garage the first day i brought it home haha. i just couldn't dare drive around without my alpine system and a viper 5900

Here's a honda harness from an 86-97. Had a lopped off one laying in my toolbox in the garage from some tard that decided chop splicing was the proper way to install his deck

Circled in red is the push tab, almost all of the harnesses are a variation of this, some with the tab being flush to the rest of the connector.

funny thing is we installed my dads corolla that way, he had the harness clipped because the panasonic manual told him to

it was a pain probing each one experimenting on which one did what, but now that we got it, its all OK

Well technically there is nothing wrong with it, it's just messy when some people do it. My only major problem with that is when people use wire nuts... they just fall off stranded wire unless you find some the right size. if i am too lazy to get a harness though i will just tap the wiring behind the plug without cutting it off. actually did this yesterday because my friend insisted that $1 for a harness was not worth it on his 96 tacoma with 516k miles lol

we used those Male/Female quick connect things (like the speaker terminal things), that way its easier if we ever need to swap anything out, it really helped when he saw the light and ditched the Panasonic for an Alpine
