How to Remove Mirror Controller?

Has anyone removed the side mirror controller module that includes the side mirror heater button on the driver side of a 97 Cl 3.0 (It's right above your window up/down switches)?

I tried to pop it out, but it seems like on the lower side of the module it is stuck on something, and since it is small I dont want to use to much force, which could damage or break the plastic piece.

Anyone know how to remove it properly?

I'll take a look at mine tomorrow for you. Since I don't have door panels, it'll be easier for me to unscrew .............

F*** it, I'll go check right now for you. Give me a second...

You first unscrew the two screws that hold the handle to the door. You will find these screws underneath 2 removable plastic pieces. One is located on the side, while the other is located towards the inside of the handle.

After doing so, you will come across two other screws inside of the handle. This is keeping everything together. Once those are removed, you are now left with the modules in your hand.

Now, there is a clip towards the inside of the heater module, you simple press on it with a flathead, and it'll pop right off.

Goodluck. And let me know if you really need pics...I'm gonna put this back together now.

I've done this.

I'll post pics tomorrow since I gotta remove it again in order to do so.

The 2 screws after removing the handle, are located towards the inside of the handle. One will be on the far right corner, while the other will be hidden by a harness/plug in the area where the mirror switch is. Once these are removed, the base that these buttons sit on, will seperate from the handle.

After that, just use a flathead to press against the clip on the inside of the module that holds it in place.

After removing the first two screws, I can't seem to remove the handle, do I just use more force to remove the handle? I didn't want to break anything.

Any advice or tips?

You don't remove the handle, you remove the whole panel, you have to start at the bottom of the panel and pop off the clips like he said with a screwdriver

Sorry about that man. I don't have door panels, so it was easier for me to just take the door handle off. If it doesn't come right off, then odds are your door panel needs to come off as well. There are clips all around the door panel that has to come off. As for doing that, I've only done it twice, and ended up breaking some clips. I don't know how to tell you to take it off without breaking a clip. Since I didn't need my door panels, it didn't matter what I broke...

Come to think of it, there's a notch on the mirror controller, you should be able to pry it up with a flathead.

I have already tried to use a flathead but only the top part of the controller seems like it would move but the lower end seems like it was stuck on something, and I didnt want to break any plastic piece.

Should I just use more force?

Wait till I get home to see if it can come off without taking the handle off. I don't have anything to lose since I won't have that window/handle/or a need for those buttons soon.

There are two harness plugs attached to your module. So let me see if you are able to get enough clearance to unplug it.

I'll be home by around 7pm today, central time. I'll post pics of how you can take it off if you didn't have the door panel on.

Pics are being uploaded right now on photobucket. As for taking it off without having to take the handle off, I couldn't do it. I didn't want to ruin the edges around the module where it sits on the handle. And I'm sure you don't want to either. What I'm about to upload is the proper way of doing this, without having to beat yourself. Now, do you need your door panel off, I guess you do. I wasn't aware of that, and that's because I don't have one. You'll see in just a few seconds...

Opps, after picture 8, there should be another step. There is another screw for you to take off before you can take that platform off from the handle. It's located underneath the handle, by the harnesses. If you look at picture number 8, you will see a cylinder plastic piece that go across the handle in the top. That's where the other screw is...

I don't have this screw, so that's why I don't have a pic of me taking it off. I noticed it when putting everything back together.

Thanks Cocoa, those pictures helped alot. I didn't pull out the door panel though, all I did was take out the side cover (the cover that covers the biggest screw) and pried out the mirror module from the top and use a flathead and popped/helped it from the bottom of the module.

Thanks again for all your help! Now I need to fix the heater button since it does not light up once pushed down, unless I hold it with my finger the whole time.

Cool, I was able to fix the heater button. All it needed was alot of cleaning with rubbing alcohol. It did the trick. I pretty much took apart the whole mirror controller module and cleaned it with the rubbing alcohol. I was careful not to break anything.
