hopefully this has happen'd to somebody else

there is a bolt that goes through what seems to be a lower control arm (that holds the rear strut in place) the bolt that goes through one side of the strut then through the bushing and out the side with teh nut (on the strut) broke off.. i cut off the bolt side so now the only thing holding it in is the bolt still inside the bushing..

is that bushing threaded?

where can i get one faster than 3-4 day shipping (from acura) 28.99 each..

the other side is just as hard to get off i think its going to break tooo what gives????

only threaded part is a bolt that is welded onto the shock body....nothing else is threaded but that part

you can go get a bolt from any hardware store for a temporary fix until you can find an oem bolt....i wouldn't trust a low grade bolt from a hardware store but you can't really do much about it i guess

local junkyard is also a easy place to nab bolts

when you install new bolts using anti-seize will prevent future headaches...goodluck

No, don't punch it out with a hammer. They sell stuff to remove bolts with broken off heads. It's like a reverse drill bit I think and you just drill it in and take it out. Damn, I guess I was lucky nothing like this happened to me.

its called an ez out. u drill a small hole in the top where the head used to be, then tap the ez out in to the hole and use a wrench to unscrew the ezout bit. thier not too expensive, maybee 15$

Wow, this does seem to happen to everyone. Happened to me, twice. Bring it to a shop to get it out.

Next time, let a trained professional install the shocks for you.
It isn't worth the headache. Not to mention that you're spending
money on parts you've broken which in the end will equal to
what I spent, to have them installed at a local shop.

that sucks. the bolt is most likely stuck. A hammer might might not do the trick.

When I had this problem, a torch and hammer fixed the problem. If you heat up the bushing sufficinetly, it will just melt the plastic. Then, you can hit it and it comes out.

I think I posted a theread about that crappy experience.

edit: here you go.

I went to a shop and the same thing happend there so it is just a flaw with our cars. You will probably have to replace that bushing. It will need to pressed in by a machine shop. Save your self the time of trying to punch it out you will just damage the bushing anyway and end up replacing it so just do it now it will save you time but not $$$.

It's threaded at the end of the bolt. Those lateral grooves aren't anything. Won't you screw up the threads if you hammer it out? Everyone keeps talking about bushings...There was no bushings holding the rear strut in place.

the bolt goes through the strut and through the bushing (inside of the lower control arm)

update:

still dont have the car back

STORY: its bobs shop.. i called bob before i brought it their and he siad it was going to be 202.00 which i wasnt happy about anyway... i said ok and brought it over there....

there is a guy that does work at the shop on the weekend.. and he agreed to do it so that i could take it out and roll it on saturday night ----> this guy calls me at like 10 last night and told me that it was done and i could come get it.. he continues to talk and says your total is 398.48

i was silent then i said, "NO, its 202"

he told then me that he gave me that quote before they knew i needed new bushings etc which was COMPLETE BULLSHIT becuase if i wasnt for the bushigns i wouldnt have brought it in there, and finished it myself!!!!!!

i have to wait till tomorrow when the owner comes in... SO

cars done but not in my garage yet..

I hate mechanics that don't use common sense..He should not have continued until he had your approval to put in new bushings. They can't put in new parts without your consent and then charge you for them. If anything you can sue them.
