Hit A Crater

Driving home on back roads, going about 45-50, and my attention is caught by a purple supra pulling out of a neighborhood. Now that I'm sufficiently not paying attention to the road, I find 2 crater-sized holes in the f'ing road and fall right into them. My car started making this water spraying sound when I turn left, so I figured I killed something. I get home - which was close to where the holes are, so I didn't have to drive all too far - and look at the tires and see if anything is dripping, and it's not. I wait a while, take a shower, whatnot. Then my roommate says I might have punctured my brake line. I freak out, call the car place kinda close to me, and go in. Obviously it wasn't the brake line since I could still stop.

At the car place, they put my car on the lift, and what do we see? 1 bent rim and 1 cracked rim - JOY. The water spraying sound was the sound of air being FORCED out of my tire by way of a bubble in the rubber on the tire. So currently, I'm rollin' on a doughnut and getting the cracked rim welded back to decent. I couldn't see that there was anything wrong with the tires because the crack was on the backside of the rim. Now I'm waiting for the rim to be fixed so it can be put back on, but I can't decide if I should go ahead and get the bent one fixed too, think I should go ahead and fix it?

i would go with a complete set of new rims if they're stock rims since you can upgrade to better ones,if they're aftermarket then i would get the bent one fixed

Sorry to hear, what are the wheels you have on them. If you bent and cracked stockies rollon on 55 or 60's then those are some big ass holes.

if you're getting 1fixed u might as well fix the other one too. no sense in leaving it bent.

It wasn't a pothole. BUT I did learn that if you mess up a tire or a rim on a pothole and that pothole has been reported to the highway patrol before and has not been fixed, then the state is liable for what it costs to fix your tire/rim. Being that I was on a back road, it was the side of the road that had the hole, not somewhere in the middle. I wish it was a pothole

down where i live theres barely any smooth roads, every few feet you have to hit something and its just so bad for the suspension system u can feel the damage done after a few weeks of driving on such roads.but if they're aftermarket i guess u just gonna have to fix them and might wanna balance them after + alignment

Konigs ftw. I wish I had bought bigger konig holes for the accord. No way i am putting 15's on the CL. Almost bought a set of 17" troubles off a friend for 70 bucks a long time ago but they were 4x100. Worthless civic/integra size

The guys @ Discount Tire said that I shouldn't have gotten the rim fixed and I should have just bought 2 new ones. They're $130each and then I'd have to buy 2 new tires. SO, should I buy 2 new rims and 2 new tires, OR put the stock rims on and buy 4 new tires?

the '97s that have half of the paint gone! I think I'm going to buy 1 new rim and 1 new tire and then keep the broken but fixed rim in the car incase something goes wrong with the bent rim that "works" for now. That sound okay?

I had 3 bent stockies. When they were straightening them, the one rim cracked. They welded it and went to have it balanced. The guys balancing the rims were surprised when I told them that they were fixed. They are straight without any problems/vibrations.

It depends. Again, I have the mindset that everyone is out to get the money that I made. If someone were to tell me that I had to buy 2 new rims knowing that there is a cheaper possible way to fix one if not both of them, then I would try to fix them first..

So I say if the bent rim is not that badly bent, straighten it and see how it is after.
The cracked rim, if you welded it, make sure that its just as straight..

just my $0.02

Right now, I need an oil change, a radiator, and have the tire/rim troubles. I have an appointment @ the gym on tues morning, a vet apt on thurs, and i'm supposed to leave for erie on friday, so this is week from hell, basically.

Oh, and I can't find a publishing job to save my life - really, it's pathetic.

Other than that, I graduated last may with my BA, my parents are going to cut me off next month, and my car has almost 250k on it now, so it'll die soon. Lots of expenses coming up and needless to say, I'm up the creek w/o a paddle

How about yourself?

Ouch... I feel for ya. I just changed my oil, rotated my tires, and have some other expenses that I need to get to like insurance, credit card, a fucked up no seat belt ticket from upstate NY, the timing belt maintenance (already 2k miles overdue).

Ya.. it sucks...
