high depreciation rate?

Ok, the car is a 1998 Acura CL 2.3 stickshift. I just bought the Edutile 2004 Complete Price Guide (Canadian), the one that's available at major bookstores. There's other books, but that's another story. I couldn't believe the depreciation listed for this car, with or without the 24,000 km a year kilometerage adjustment:

2003 book: $17725 (I paid $18000 plus 7% tax from a dealer, not a bad deal for a Honda in this town)
2004 book: $12590 (I've put 19,000 km on it in ten months, about average)

Isn't this a bit unusual for a Honda, or any domestic for that matter? As a comparison a 1999 Accord EX 4 cyl. 2 door only lost $600 in one year. Does nobody want this car?

Daniel

however the market sucks for nearly everything out there these days. It's a buyers market, not a sellers

aww come on its a 6+ year old car.

Lexus's 3 year retail depreciation rate value from sticker price is 52.4% from 2001-2003

acura's avg. depreciation rate retail value was 52.2%
so for a car that was originally 22-24000 brand new ( US dollars ) I'd say its hanging in there pretty strongly............buyers market or not

I went through the local Auto Trader as soon as it came out, and it seems that the going rates on these cars aren't as bad as I thought in this town (I only found one CL but Accords/Preludes as well). I didn't see how our car should be worth less than an Accord EX, or something. I was thinking 1st Gen CL was a slow seller, and now nobody wants it. Integras seem to be more of a prize horse, I think it's because Calgary has quite a young population.
