I know this probably won't help because i'm just speculating, but if you run new speaker wires you should be able to do it. Just cut the amp out of the loop and use the amp that is in the aftermarket HU. So by putting new wires from the back of the harness to each speaker, you'll be able to use the factory speakers without 'removing' the factory amp!

lol it's funny how you know kindof alot about cars but nothing about stereos im no expert or anything tho.
50 x 4 is the wattage on my headunit. Most decent ones have between 45-50. They put out that many watts to each speaker (x4) plenty of power for basically any speaker. My kenwood excelon speakers are like 300w, but I only have 50 going into them and they sound sweet.

dude is yours a 98 like mine?? is there a difference in sterios??
if yours is like mine, all you need to do is swap out the deck. easy as hell, nothing has to be done with the inernal amp.

who got the best deal?
all these numbers are BS just like a car says 250hp but than u take it to the wheels and its much lessss, same with wattage if it says 50watts per channel its a fraction of that i wish they would give us real numbers!!!

I've read about the incompatibility of aftermarket HUs with the Bose amp that CLpower is talking about. Does the same problem exist in the 2.3? I have the stock non-Bose HU in my 99, and it looks exactly like the Bose HU in the 3.0 (except it doesn't say "Bose"). I'm wondering if it's still a Bose and if I'll have the same problem when I swap mine out. Thx.

blah blah blah
all you need is a aftermarket HU and a harness kit. U could keep everything stock. I had mine like that until I gone crazy with my car audio. It's simple, you don't even need that dash kit because u could just reuse your stock pocket ont he bottom

can you show me where to get the harness kit?
And can I use any HU?

u could buy any HU u want. And ask them if they have a harness kit for an 94-97 accord. The harness kit lets you plug into the stock harness without cutting stock wires.

yeah, but just like cars, even though a 287hp 350z doesn't make 287 to the wheels, it's still quick as fuck!! 50 x 4 decks might not put out 50 watts, but it'll still power the speakers a hell of a lot etter than the stock HU.
CLpower-when you go to buy the deck, it should come with the kit to rewire it to your stock wires. trust me it's about as easy as installing a CAI

yes...this is all that i did. Went to a local stereo shop and got the wiring harness and thats it. I had to do a little modifying to the the bracket the cd player slides into to get the compartment to stay attachted to the cd player. Then all that i did is connect the wires. I think I ended up hooking (two blue wires) i think my remote wire and my antena wire to the the same wire (a blue one) coming out of the wiring harness. And that was it, no problems since. It was that easy, and this was the first CD player i installed completely by myself.

hmm... i have a 97 3.0 and i have been told by numerous "professionals" IE: cartoys / best buy, that all of the bose audio is integrated and a new HU requires new amp and speakers... i can smell the b.s. but just want to make sure. I already have 2 12"s in the trunk with no problems. Is the 97 audio unit the same as the 98\99? If so i can just purchase a new HU and a harness kit as well?

oooooooooooooo hold up - do you guys have the Acura/Bose or not? All that shit I was talking about was for the Bose system. If you don't have the Bose, all you need is a harness!

You guys are stressin' ME out!
Hey guys. Just got my computer back from the shop. Trying to catch up on the happs.
ChrisB and I are both MECP Cert. Installers. with much experience on the amped factory systems.
The FACT's are as follows....
You need a Honda harness with factory amped or un-amped.
Metra part# 70-1720.
You don't need to rewire the Bose amp to work with a new deck. However you are feeding this amp way to much juice with a new deck. The factory deck pushes about 7 to 12 watts. Most aftermarket decks run 17 to 22 watts. With a jump in power fed to the Bose amp it will shorten it's life-span and burn out much quicker. But in the mean time. Enjoy the improved sound!

CLpower: Does your stock HU say just acura on it or does it say BOSE somewhere? If it is bose you will have to do as i originally said and run (or have someone run ) new wires to the speakers from the aftermarket head unit. If you have acura all you have to do is go to walmart and ask the car audio people for a harness for a 97 honda and plug this in where you stock HU was and it'll work!

I'll try to find you a link for that adapter when I get home later. Doesn't matter what brand of HU as it only attached to the new HUs speaker outs.
Why do you want a new HU anywayz?

my stock one stopped playing CD's, I was able to use one of those CD cleaners for a little while but now it won't pick that up either. I've been trying to avoid touching the stereo as much as possible. Guess it's about time to.

I am also in the market for a new HU.. mine is so boring it just says like... "7" or whatever the track number is. Im in the market for a HU with dancing elephants or somthing of that nature.
