there are a few things you can do to cover the dot matrix, it just sounds like your tinter was lazy

 

That guy is full of crap. Even though the dot matrix is a pain in the ass to tint, it CAN be done and look good. With the 97-99 CL back windows, there are two options: tint the whole thing including the dot matrix, or lay black vinyl onto the dot matrix while tinting the rest of the window. Most tint shops will just put vinyl over the dot matrix. I've personally tinted the entire back window of my CL without having to use vinyl, and it looks great. If you're not happy with the back window, you should take it back to him and have it done right. FYI, I'm a professional window tinter. So if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Yes, it can be done. But most tinters will probably say that it's "impossible" to do without looking like crap. If that's the response you get tomorrow, tell them to put vinyl over the dot matrix instead. If done properly, it will look clean. Good luck, man.

 

took it back today, the guy was like "no it will not stick, this is high quality tint. some cheaper stuff may stick but this wont" i was like oook. then he said wait a few days for it to cure then he will touch it up.

LOL! He's just pulling excuses out of his ass. Any experienced tinter should be able to make the tint stick and look good, especially if using "high quality tint." Just out of curiousity, what brand of film does he use?

 

the guy sounds like a fukkin douche. he's probably using shit from walmart that'll turn purple in a year. I mean i understand if he doesnt want to tint over the matrix. but he should atleast put vinyl over it.

He shouldn't have tried to charge you for the vinyl because it should've been a part of the deal in the first place. I don't know if you have any experience tinting windows, but installing vinyl correctly and having it look good can be tricky for an inexperienced person (no offense).

who gives a damn what the law is. i dont think any state allows you to tint your windshield, but if youve got 5% all the way around (against the law) you might as well do 35 on the front, thats as low as i would go. the windshield completes the tint job for sure. ive been pulled over before for side tint but cop never said anything about the windshield because number one the whole windshield is tinted, not just a gay strip that is noticeable and number two, its only 35. now with a whole car in 5, the 35 on the windshield does look more like 20 or 15 to the outside viewer, you cant see the driver even if your a few feet from the front bumper.
