f23/h22 5spd swap

so i need some help and advice. i have a 98 2.3 auto...and i just blew the trans for a 2nd time . anyway, i am really interested in leaving the motor in, but swapping the auto trans with a 5 spd f23/h22. the local trans shop told me it would be 2 g's to rebuild my auto tranny, so i was liek fuck that, not again....so i was wondering would it be cheaper to do the swap? if so...where can i get the trans and all its parts and components? is it worth it? please give me some insight..thanks guys.

It's a pretty long process. The only good news is that since you're a 2.x, your car should have the places for the clutch master cylinder and shifter cables "labelled" on the firewall. Instead of 2 layers of steel, you should have 1, the other is cut out. Those will need to be drilled of course. As for the ECU..I have no idea. Theoretically, it shouldn't matter. My friend and I swapped his 92 Plymouth Laser RS from Auto to a Manual from a 93 Eagle Talon. His ECU took a shit before the swap, so one he got from a junkyard works fine now. The whole process took us about 20-22 hours, just fyi.

im not to sure if the swap is cheaper than rebuilding an auto. it might be, but alot of the parts you can find from junkyards and honda dealerships. paramus honda in your case. personally i would go with the F23 transmission.

u dont put the clutch in the existing automatic transmission. you have to get a manual transmission and get alot of misc. parts. clutch pedal, shift linkage, etc, etc.

i heard of acosta. arent they in like elmwood park or something. hows there reputation with honda.

its up to you, if your going for straight up performance than you can go with the H22, you'll still be slow, but your car will be alot more responsive.

if you go with the F23 transmission, you can find one cheap, and keep good gas mileage, and still have the fun of having a stick.

and probaly the performance shop your going to will most likely order everything you need.

yeah, acosta is in elmwood park. i think i will just stick with the f23 trans....but im just hoping that the whole job will cost less than an auto rebuild at 2 grand. im praying.

theres this place e-shift performance a few miles south of me. they do outstanding work with hondas and pratically any import. there cars are in tons of magazines. it should only be like 40 mins south of you on like e121 or 122. possibility if you say you know me it could help.

yea ill do it in a sec. yea its gonna be tuff. a good shop will be able to order everything you need to complete the swap. and most of them have accounts with honda parts dept. at dealerships, so they get a discount.

Not what I meant, you misread. I meant, fab work to cut a hole and put the clutch pedal and cable (ie: the misc parts, into a car that only has 2 pedals)

when you guys leave for the military. just to let you know from my experience that there is alot of free money in the system. you just have to look for it. when you guys sign up for the G.I. bill sign also for the kicker. basically its a extra $600 and you get $5400 back for school
