Engine Whine? Noise?
Engine Whine? Noise?
I searched already, blah, blah....anyhow, has any one out there experience a ehining type noise coming from the front passenger side of the engine? 3.0 CL, its the side with all the belts and alternator. I just installed a high powered stereo system and though I had noise in my speakers and was pissed till I realized it was coming from outside the car.
It sounds just like stereo system noise, and increases in pitch as you accelerate. Its not the stereo so WTF? I'll wait to see some responses before I explain more about it....its really annoying...PLS HELP!

So out of 9000+ members, no one has had this happen? Anything? Belts, alternator, power steering or anything making noise once in a while? Wow, I must have a lemon....
Maybe its just cuz its so damn cold out here.

if it sounds like it's coming from your alternator and it's not coming out of your speakers, and it increases as your rpm's go up, it's your alternator, probably the bearing. If you've never changed your alternator since 97 it's probably about that time.

Well thanks, It definitely sounds like that...Ill check into it...
If the whining noise was coming through the speakers, it would most likely be a problem with your ground. But since you say it's coming only from outside the car, then it is definitely your alternator. I had problems with alternator whine earlier as well. My car audio place took care of it easily.

My problem was with the ground wire so the shop just fixed it for me. But since your problem is outside the car, it does look like you'll need a new alternator. My whining noise was coming through the speakers whenever I'd accelerate and would vary based on the RPM's.

I've got a system installed too, and for me, i only hear the whining noise when i've got the AC on. I just ride around with my AC off
