The block itself?? Well the high temp paint the sell as engine block paint is safe to 900F, but i'm pretty sure it's less than half that. I can't imagine an engine being 900F and being OK. I'm gonna say more in the 250-300 range. Can anybody verify?

LOL, Touching it will get you a temperature reading of "HOT". While that is quite accurate, i think he wants a number.

Aim behind the exhaust headers, you should be able to get a shot at the block through those.

With the car warmed up and the fan on twice, I aimed at the block under the throttle body area and I got a reading of 192F. Around the header area I got 198F.

That seems about right to me. The temperature gauge in the car usually reads right around 200.
