EGR Flow Insufficient - DIY
EGR Flow Insufficient - DIY
I got this code in return for my check engine light. I did a search on it and althought it is covered under warranty, my car is just above 153K and the warranty is only up to 150K so i'm outa luck. Acura said it would be $200+ to replace the valve.
I'm wondering, since its most likely just some carbon build-up that needs to be cleaned, does anyone have any instructions on where this valve is located, how to get to it, and how to clean it up.
Any help would be appreciated...I'd rather do it myself then pay that amount for no reason.
thanks

Sucks man. My check engine light is on too, i feel for the same reason. Luckily i'm under 150k (barely), but this will be the second time if that's what it turns out to be.
Sorry, can't help you find it, i'll look in my book when i get home and see if i can find anything to help you out.

NEED HELP
OK...its been about a month now...my mechanic has changed my EGR 3 times now and after driving for less then a day, the light has always come back on. Yet it gives the same code each time.
My hunch is, because of the way the car is driving, that there is some sort of a vacuum leak around that area that is giving those problems...but its not the actual EGR that is the problem.
Any other ideas as to what it could be before i have to take it to an acura dealer to get it diagnosed.
Keep in mind, my car is over 150K so none of this will be free.
Thanks

when i was living in nassau, the bahamas, there wasn't an acura dealership, so i had to come back to the states to buy and egr valve. i did it 2x (stupid me)... anyway, the 1st time costed me about $200 for just the valve. the 2nd time, i went to another dealer and got it for $60 and it's a "kit". basically, it's just the valve plus a lil pipe. the way to fix the egr valve problem is to drilled out the carbon deposit w/ a 3/8 (i think, don't quote me on it) drill bit. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO DRILL THRU INTO THE MANIFOLD!!!!! acura has a special drill bit for it that will prevent you from drilling in too far. once you drilled the hole, you insert that lil pipe into that hole and install the new valve. that should do the trick.
I wish I've kept my extra valve and that lil pipe. I could've sold it to you for like $50 or something.
but before you do all this, call acura customer care and tell them your situation that you just went over the 150K limit (i actually thought it's a lifetime warranty like 999,999 miles or something) see if they can fix yours under goodwill.
good luck

if you bought those from the dealer i would have demanded them for free since the EGR valve is covered under the extened warrenty but that is just my thought
i would have never paid for that shit

exxxciteCL:
Thanks, i'll run that by my mechanic to see if it means anything to him.
Chinisimo:
The first thing i did was call the local acura dealership and told them that i was at about 153K and the warranty was at 150K so could they still cover it. He said if it was around 1K over, he coulda pulled something off but 3K is just too much.
I did then give Acura cust. service a call and in the end they said if I had baught the car from Acura, they would've considered me their customer and did someting for me but since I bought it used, they never got any money from me so they won't help in this case.
Not only that, but during that call, the lady took down my VIN# and made a note of my mileage which means its now in their system to "NOT HELP THIS GUY"
But overall, if i'm not facing the same problem as exxxciteCL, are there any other ideas as to what could be causing this light to come on.
Thanks again all.
