Damn Oil Filter...Please help

Does anyone know how to get the oil filter off our cars. The damn thing is in the most rediculous place. I bought a oil filter wrench but it's so damn tight in there, I can't get a good grip. Is there any other tools you guys can suggest? Thanks a million.

Pretty ghetto method, but try getting like a rubber glove, or something with a lot of grip, like a golf glove, and turn it with your hand.

here is another pretty crude method.

You can pound a screw driver into the filter from the side and just use that for leverage.

If you use Honda filters; there is a honda special tool which costs about $15 and works quite well. I've had mine since I was a wrench and it was a good purchase.

it's a pain but the filter wrench should work- take the round part and get it around the filter -don't worry about the handle until the round part is completey around the filter, then grab the handle and pull to tighten the round part and twist off the filter --it's not easy but it will work eventually

there is a different tool that work like the wrench one but with out the handle....i'm guess theres no room for you to the handle. if you can find the other tool that should do it the trick. Use Fram oil filter next time =)

Word of caution if you use those Fram oil filters with the new easy-grip coating. After a while, the black stuff gets cooked and then when you get underneath and grab it, it flakes off and you get a face full of that crap. It tastes great.

I have a small oil filter wrench that barely fits - it only moves a little bit, but if you keep at it, the filter will eventually loosen up.

My special tool is my right hand. Comon guys, I'm not that big and or super strong. And I haven't really had any problems takin my oil filter off. Worse comes to worse, just put a screwdriver in there and just turn.

Yeah man, that screwdriver technique works really well in a pinch. It can get pretty messy though.

this post amuses me.. I think our filter is in the greatest spot!!! unless 2.3 / 2.3 is different from a 3.0... mine is located right behind the right front wheel... you dont even need to jack the car up.. just turn the wheel and twist by hand or with the tool... Mine has always been easy!!!! Ever try changing oil in a 93' pathfinder.. now thats a bitch!!!!

I'm sure the 2.3/2.2 are different than the 3.0's. The filter is closer to the right tire than the left.

Use the screw driver method, it's free and it works. I have done it several times.

No, it's not the same. I believe on the 2.2 and 2.3 the oil filter is between the firewall and the engine. You would need to reach between the area with an oil filter wrench. The thing that sucks about it is that, when you do get the filter loose, the oil runs down your arm.

The best tool is the one that you can use with your 3/8 socket ratchet it looks like a cup. That is, if you haven't deformed your filter trying to get it out with plyers, screwdriver or the famous strap wrench.

Use a grippy glove man, its cleaner, and its easier to snake your arm up there instead of trying to fish the filter w/ a tool.

Yeah that would work if the last person who put the filter on didn't tighten the sucker so tight.

i thought its like behind the motor and right in middle....if you look from above the intake manifold i think you can see it.....and the 3.0 is just hanging behind the right front wheel (great place to put a oil filter).

It's right in the middle of the engine underneath the intake manifold, with lots of hoses and cables in the way.

theres no way you can get to a 2.3's oil filter from the right tire its in the middle in an odd spot (unless you got skinny arms and can slide it around the backside of the motor) jack it up,, its not 2 far from the drainplug

I'm very flexible around here, but there is a line. I recieved multiple PM's and emails. It's the board's discretion and that's a lil over the line.
