damn meter maids

im sure this is a dumb question but check this out.

last night i slept at my lady's pad and i parked right in front of her house on the street. the curb wasnt painted red or anything but there was a fire hydrant there. now if the city didnt want you to park there, wouldnt it be in their interest to paint the curb red? i just figured that was what the rules were. and if its not painted red then youre free to park there.

i woke up inthe morning and i got a ticket for parking there. now i know what your thinking.."dude you just answered your question"...but my REAL question is...can i contest this? i mean its only 50 bucks..but 50 bucks is 50 bucks.

If there is no visible indication that you couldn't park there i'd fight it. Might be a fire hydrant or something near by u were close to though, make sure u doublecheck

you're always eligible for a ticket if u block a fire hydrant, it's in the DMV manual and taught in driver's ed

You can fight it, but if you parked in front of a hydrant, that's your fault, you should know better than that, you're lucky there wasn't a fire or they would just run the firehose right THROUGH your car windows

This is all I could really find. No sources can be verified.
Q. I have been wondering about the regulations concerning parking in front of fire hydrants. The community in which I live has multiple fire hydrants. All the hydrants are painted yellow. However, some of the curbs that they are located by are normal (not painted any color), and some are painted red. I know the red areas are no-parking areas, but is it legal to park in the areas in which the curb is not painted red or marked in any way?

– Bill Hay, Irvine

A. I spoke to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Stephen Miller, who said it doesn't matter whether the curb is painted red. You still can't park in front of a hydrant. Cities will paint the curbs as a guideline, but it's discretionary, he said. By law, 15 feet on either side of a hydrant needs to be clear of vehicles. (So keep that tape measure in your trunk.) A little trivia: Hydrants come in various colors, including yellow, white, red (on private property) and in some rare cases the colors of the U.S. flag (in honor of our country's bicentennial in 1976). In the city of Orange, the hydrants are even painted orange.

i parked near a fire hydrant thats across the street from my house and got a ticket a while back. its not painted red either and its in the middle of the block, worst part is i was like 8 feet away but the rule is to be 15 feet on either side. i looked at the time on the ticket it was around 3am. i didnt even know meter maids were out at that hour, but that learned me lol
