D4 & Check Engine Lights

I am the new owner of a 97 CL 2.2

When I first turn on the key, the D4 light comes for about 2-3 seconds then goes out when the fuel pump turns off. Also, the check engine light DOES NOT light up when I turn on the key.
I checked the bulb and it's ok.

It is almost like the 'D4 light' is getting the voltage necessary to light the 'check engine' light when the key is turned to on.
After starting the vehicle, the D4 light functions normally and the car runs & drives great.

Any thoughts / ideas?

Its the transmission, i had the same problem a few weeks ago. Go to a Transmission shop and have them look at it. They will be able to read the codes from your cars computer and give you a diagnosis.

I truly hope that I am wrong about it being your transmission. The reason I said that it could be your transmission is because the same exact thing happened to my 97 3.0. The D4 light would blink sometimes and I paid it no mind, but then two week earlier I came to a full stop at a stop sign. I hit the gas and the car wouldn?t move I tried all the other gears but the same thing happened. I ended up taking it to Cottman transmission to have it checked out which cost $475 just to take (Transmission) it down and inspect it and $975 to put it back in if I decided not to have the work done by them so, I had no choice but to have the work done. By the way the mechanic was the person who told me about the D4 light blinking he said that it is as an early indicator that the transmission might be having some problems.

It turned out that the speedy lube place where I changed my transmission oil put it the wrong type of oil and it burned up seizing some of the gears and causing a lot of loose metal damage. The transmission couldn?t be rebuilt so, I had to have a rebuilt transmission put in along with a new torque converter and 2 new solenoids. Altogether it cost $3000 including tax and labor along a 1 year warranty on the transmisson. I know that I got ripped off, but I couldn?t go anywhere else all because the inspection cost was so much. Anyway, I just got the car back and everything works great (keeping my fingers crossed). If I only checked my transmission oil I would have see it turning brown and I could have got to it earlier. The funny thing is that I changed the oil only about 8 months ago and although I didn?t realized what was happening the transmission lasted pretty long.
