CL doesn't like 5th gear

At around 25% throttle in 5th the shifter starts to buzz and it pops out into neutral. It's scary and dangerous. Anybody else have this happen?

Yeah, it does sound serious & it just started yesterday on the drive down to NYC. It happens a few times an hour, which sucks.

This car's warranty runs out in a few weeks & I'm worried that it's not bad enough for a dealer to notice unless they drive it for 20 minutes on the highway.

then you should no joke tell them to take a 30 minute or however long drive!!!!! Before yor warranty is up... make sure you are with them so they do see it.... drive if you have to....

Any recommendations on good Acura dealers in the NYC area? We bought it from Valley Stream Acura but this car has never seen an Acura dealer for service.

If the car is still under warranty, you might consider getting the extended warranty while you still can. Tranny problems are expensive, might pay for itself.

Capser, we should talk about your boys and introducing me. I bring my car there all the time and don't have a problem with the service, but i would like to be able to actually talk to the tech's rather than the service manager.....

There is a law that says if you report a problem with your car to a dealer while under warranty, and they fail to do anything about it, even after the warranty expires they are obligated to fix it if the problem contiunes or worsens.

So, definitely get it on record that you reported the problem before the warranty expires!

Hmm, I just checked at NHTSA and while there wasn't anything interesting with the CL, the Accord of the same year seems to have had a TSB issued for 5th gear problems.

Service Bulletin Number: 97080195057
Bulletin Sequence Number:
Date of Bulletin: 9708
NHTSA Item Number: SB052947
Make: HONDA
Model: ACCORD
Year: 1997
Component: POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
Summary: FIFTH GEAR SHIFT FORK WAS NOT MANUFACTURED PROPERLY.
