Check engine light and Rant
Check engine light and Rant
Alright Im on my 20th problem with this dam car now.
I basically got the car for free in december, my old car a 98 nissan altima died on me and my father gave me this car.
So far Ive done,
Transmission- 4300 at the dealer.
Tune-up- all fluilds changed, wheels ballanced, alingment, spark plugs(ngk),
all done at the shop- 800.
Last week I had a wheel bearing and a half shaft go out, the passanger side, that cost another 400,
Now the dam check engine light is on again.
I know my alternator is on its way and is way over do, I have excessive dimming and power loss in the power items at times, and they did a load test at advance auto and said its on its way and need to be changed soon.
and the dimming and power loss has gotten wost the past week.
Would the alternator cause the check engine light to come on ?
Im really hoping its that cause they arent that expensive.
IF its something more major, I think i might just trade the car in and buddy of mine is gonna hook me up with a deal on a crysler 300.
I really wanna drop this car and put some rims on it and finish the sound system I started, but I have no motivation to do that if its gonna keep going in and out of the shop.
Thanks for listening and reading all this.

Well, first off... I think the altenator is something that you should change imediately. As far as the CEL.... find out what it is, and then talk about getting rid of the car. A CEL is just your CL's way of saying "HI, dont forget about me". I would go to autozone and find out what it is, before talking about a Crysler 300. Hope everything works out.

Just curious, why did you go to the dealer for the tranny rebuild? Do you have an Amcco around town? Anyways, doesn't help much talking about what's be done and said already.
As for the check engine light, mine never came on when my alternator died. So I would have to say go get it check and see what code you throw. For the 3.0's it's usually the EGR malfunction code it throws.
And how the heck did your half shaft go bad? Was it an axle they replaced, or the actual half shaft?

Know that CEL's, or check engine lights, are emissions oriented rather than truly engine oriented. This is because if the dash symbol meant "check emissions" hardly anyone would.
So check it out, your engine is probably fine but needs some sort of maintenance item to clean things up.

I think the code might be the transmission again, theyve already replace it once, after the initial replacement, The tranny has been slippin, and clunkin, some.
This is the last time im gonna go through with the tranmission replacement.
Im gonna start saving again, and hold offf on any mods till I get these problems figured out and at least have the car running for 3 months, without it going to the shop. the cars been in the shop more in the past 3 months that Ive owned it then the amount of time ive driven it.

Mine's the ABS light
I got the same code and if your cl has less than 150k miles the dealership will replace it for free along w/ a tune up. They also put on a new ignition switch and a new idler valve ??? ( I think thats what it was, dont have invoice with me) ALL FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!
