Red face Check engine light Bulb?

'97 Acura CL 3.0

Apparently the Check Engine light burned out and it needs to be replaced to pass emissions. The Acura Dealership near me informed me that they did not know which bulb needs to be replaced for this. Had the part guy ask a master tech. So I thought I would ask if any of you have replaced this? Let me tell the story....

In order to pass emissions here in Arizona I had to have the EGR port drilled out and the kit placed on it, I had to pay all of this out of pocket something like $350! They wouldn't even work with me on the price, guess it's the bitch of living in Scottsdale huh? I have 212K on my car. Now I am informed that the Catalytic convertor is failing.

Here are the questions I have...

How do I remove the speedometer cluster to change the Check Engine bulb? Does anyone know what bulb I need to replace ?
Can I get a Catalytic convertor for my 97 CL 3.0? Factory one is $650!
I've checked online at Checker autoparts and they have one for $89.

Thanks for all your help in advance, I threw alot of issues and questions out there at once.

Go to the DYI section and look for blue bulb conversion or something like that. There are some rather detailed explanations there on how to remove the gage bezzel and cluster. As for the CAT, you should be able to use the same one as that of a 98-00' Accord EX.

Good luck and watch out for some expected

It's a size #74 bulb. You can find it at http://www.autolumination.com/ or that other link that Musulsa put in the DIY for the LED gauge conversion.

Does it matter if I use incandescent or focused LED?

Here is a pic of the gauge cluster, I placed a red arrow by where the check light engine is in the cluster...

Which bulb is it in the pic? I am assuming it is # 3 in the diagram? The only thing is that the Check engine light burned out and none of the other lights are out. Has anyone ever changed one before? Everyone at the Acura dealership said it is extremely rare when this happens, it should really never happen. Is there something else that could be wrong with it as well? Thanks for your help....

Cool

The guide to remove the Guage Cluster was awesome. I wish I would have had my digital camera to add to the changing of the Check engine light as well.
Once I had the Guage cluster off I had to remove the back, by unscrewing the 2 screws holding on the white backing.
Then, once I had that piece off, I had to remove the long metal screws holding the circuit board onto the cluster.
Once that was off, there was a whole set of lights that you turn and remove. They are small and similar to the the ones you remove to light up the display. I purchased the bulb and replaced everything and the Check engine light now comes on.
If anyone would like to know the process let me know. I did it without any problems. Now, I just need to know how to clear the memory so the check engine light will shut off. Thanks everyone for helping me out with were to go! You guys are a great community!

That will clear the OBC if I disconnect the battery? It clears out everything that was stored in it?
