check engine light

anyone have experience with the check engine staying on even after the EGR valve has been replaced. That was the original code when it first went on. I own a 1998 3.0 CL with 130,000 miles, she runs great with or without the check engine light on. I have reset the code on numerous occasions and it still comes back on in 7-10 days. It runs perfect with or without the light on. Any suggestions?

Did you clean out the EGR port? I had the same problem, I was throwing 2 CEL codes, one for EGR insufficient flow, and one for EGR lift sensor. At first I replaced the EGR valve itself, and still kept throwing insuff. flow until I cleaned out the EGR port in the upper intake manifold.

I didn't know you replace your EGR - maaaybe that is my problem because we followed the same process for clearning the port. I might have to take it off again and make sure there isnt' anything blocking it again. GT - did you clean out the EGR port in the block or only the manifold?

I replaced the EGR valve itself because it went bad. You will throw a code for lift sensor if the egr valve is bad, because the lift sensor is an internal part of the EGR valve. If you just get insuff. flow, and your EGR is good, then cleaning the port in the manifold should clear it. Also check to see that the gasket under the egr is good. When i replaced the EGR valve, the gasket was sort of melted and stuck on. There's also a port underneath the valve that I just cleaned out a little with carb cleaner
