There is a weird fart-like sound that is coming from my car when i take off from a dead stop. it is really quick, but fairly loud. That is the best way to describe it, it sounds like a fart. Anybody have any ideas what it could be? Muffler problem maybe or muffler pipe problem? Hopefully someone knows what i am talking about. it only happens when i take off, or am accelerating from a slow roll. Thanks.

p.s. If it is a muffler problem, i want to do something other than the stock muffler. Really no "speed" mods done to the car, so what would be a good exhaust system to get?

I know exactly what you're talking about. Do you have a 5 speed? Does it happen at about 1900 RPM? Does it sound like a metallic buzz fart? I think it's the flex pipe rubbing against something but i could be wrong. I never got a straight answer for this problem...

Sounds like you might have a exhaust leak somewhere... take it to a local muffler shop... and have them check it out... shouldn't cost you much!

this may sound wierd, but before you do anything check your oil. Mine was doing that and I was just low on oil

I got something like that, i took it to my friend (he a mechanic) he said I was missing a cat cover on my CL. I think when i got it from the person, the shop that he took it to repair the cat forgot or was too cheap to put it on. He said it was common for the our car to have the cat cover rust off or not hold on as tight to prevent the noise. I probably get a cover and bolt it on. It is a cheap part and should probably take 10-15 mins to put on.

I get it usually in cold weather and at 2000 rpm. It like a large vibration, like a metallic quick vibration. That is it,

I had the same noise at around 2000RPM...when the car is on a lift, just tie a metal hanger around the cat to hold the cover tight- quick fix for "noise be gone"

My car does the same farting noise... around 2000 rpm's in 1st & 2nd - does sound like somethings loose. Going to try the above advice and "tie it off".

im starting to notice that also now that its getting really hot. its too much of a pain to mess with though. i guess i'll check it out when im under there when i get my headers
