Car breaking apart, any more suprises i should know?

Hi, i have a 99 2.3 cl, 68,000 miles, and it is constantly breaking. everything in this car has broken or worn out quicker than any other cars i've seen. my rear calipers started leaking brake fluid, the catalytic converter broke internally, passenger side fender liner tore up apart, these things never happened to any of the other cars. my moms honda civic with 120,000 kept together better than my car, just normal wear and tear. atleast the exhuast held up for 3 years until it busted open. it seems as though i have a 100 percent american car. is there any more suprises i should know about, whats next on the list, because i never heard of a catalytic converter, wheel well falling out like it did.

Damn that sux ass. it must have been beaten. I have a 98 with 82k on the car. The only problem i really was brake pads replacement, and one of my sockets burnt out. Oh and my ac but that was due to an unfortuniate mishap.

No, tats not even it, my brother had the car before he gave it to me, he had bought the car brand new, and at lile 60K he gave me the car when he bought a new car, and unforunate mishap is what happens to these cars. i know that he took very good care of it, i think its just a car that acura didn't pay much attention to.

I beat the hell out of my CL (including running nitrous), and the only problem I've experienced is with the driver's side window regulator. Even that problem hasn't been a problem in more than a year. I have 114K on my '97 3.0CL. It's been the most reliable car I've owned!

Sorry to hear that you got a lemon!

Not sure.

My use of the term "lemon" may be too strong. A "lemon" usually refers to a car that's consistently experiencing mechanical and electrical failures.

Acura's aren't the best cars manufactured out there, but they're pretty reliable.

Window regulators on the CL are a somewhat common compaint as well as the 3.0 tranny.

I haven't hear/read about any other consistently failing part on the CL.

Soryy to hear about your troubles.

my car is doing the same thing, i have a 98 2.3 cl, just recently i have replaced all four tires, changed the brake pads, brake fluids , the left window regulator, and now my catayltic converter is gone. How much was it for a new cat and did you have to replace the the o2 sensor. any help is much appreciated thanks.

Tires, Brakes, and brake fluid is all related to how you drive your car. They are all 'wear' items. If you had tried to lemon your car, (even if it was in the right time frame) you would lose. Or better yet, no one would take your case.

The only real 'Failures' are the window problem and your cat.

If you really want troubles go buy a Camaro... They dont usually last 2miles off the parking lot. =)

that information woulda been useful to me a month ago, but it didn't matter much, i bought a high flow catalytic, the only problem is that there was no hole for the 02 sensor, so i'm gonna try some rewiring shit that i saw in one site, and that shit don't work, i'll just buy an o2 simulator.

my car sounds smoother than before, a little low end grunt noise along with it, but not as loud as i had hoped, but the intake by itself makes it loud enough at WOT. and the shit that my car broke and wasn;t supposed to was my catalytic, rear brake caliper, and that damn wheel well, the muffler would still be intact if they used stainless steel in the first place, whats a couple more hundred bucks, then the damn thing would'nt fall apart every 3 years.

fender liners are a problem for some on the board, I have lost 3 of them in 3 years. My only other probems have been a whine in the climate control blower, which was replaced under warranty, and a broken window regulator 6 months ago. So far it is the most reliable car i have owned, never failed to start, stop, and turn even after a year of autox.

yeah, i don't think i;ve had trouble starting the engine, but one time when my cat was broken, the engine was acting weird, the rpms dropped less than 500, which it has never gone that low before, don't know what heppened. it was either shut the engine off and gas it before it stalled, i turned it off, it was fine after that. but yeah, i didn't not believe those shit broke in my car.

well, what a surpised, it is now my driver side calipers leaking, now at 73,000. Is this common for cl's, calipers breaking apart at 70k miles? My tranny was never as smooth as other cars, and i've heard of them breaking down early, whats the life expectancy of trannys, i would like to know. Thanks.

dude i dont mean to be dick, but it sounds to me like your bro didn't take such good care of this car. mine has 64k and ive only had to replace the egr valve and brake pads. i did replace a few other miscelaneos items, but that was strictly shit that i broke by my own doing. if i were you i would do some overhauling on the car. new pads, oil, tranny fluid, tranny cooler, wires, plugs, etc. might help in the long run?

crazyazn you resurrected your thread 6 months and 5000 miles later...

as a few suggested before, try to sell your car for what it is worth at the moment. Just to let you know im selling mine...

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146191

in the black market. monetary issues... well mine has no problems at the moment and didn't have any while I've owned it. If you like the CL try for another one.

And no those are not common problems for our cars at that mileage or I don't think at any mileage with some decent attention to upkeep.
