Please give us some help. My husband is trying to instal new rear brake pads for his 1997 acura cl 2.2. He is having problems. can anyone give us a step by step instruction sheet? He's having the most trouble trying to open the caliper????? Any suggestions or tips on what he's doing wrong?

ok, first he has to remove the caliper. Then using a big C clamp, keep the old pad on the piston portion of the caliper and remove the other pad. Take a C clamp and tighten down on the old pad, pushing the piston in. Then just remove the old pad, install new ones, and reattach. If he cant get the piston to go in, he has to remove the piston portion brake pad and turn donw the piston by using a big flat head screwdriver ( I used a lug wrench, seriously. ) and turn the piston into the caliper itself, they dont just push in that easily sometimes. After it's in, proceed as normal.

The rear one does not compress like the front. You have to take a large flat head screwdriver and turn the piston in clockwise. That will screw it back in.

you can get a brake cue from most auto part stores for around 12 dollars. this will help you out. you just need to remember to apply pressure at all times so you dont blow a caliper seal out.
