Auto to Manual conversion

I have a 98 2.3 4 spd auto. I got the car as a gift, so I really wasn’t too picky about the transmission at the time. However, I’ve been doing a lot of mods and now I really wish I had a manual tranny. I’m guessing that it’s possible to remove an auto trans and put in a manual. Has anyone heard of someone doing this, and how much does it cost? I’m just concerned about the risk factors involved with the operation of the car after the switch. I don’t want to give my car any long term problems. Thanks for any comments.

I've done it on civics before, it's not hard

Find a reputable shop in your area and get a quote. It's not a hard swap and should take about a day if the shop is on the ball.

Shouldn't have problems if its done properly. Its a mere question of do you really want to put that much money into a car that isn't going to make any benefit? Its still gonna be the same old slow plain acura cl, but now with a stick.

i totally disagree. Its alot quicker than the auto...you cant even beat some ricey civics with the auto....with the stick once you mod it youll be taking out a couple v6 cars and competeing with the 3.0. notice i did say competeing and not beating LOL

Just save some money and buy a good torque converter. You'll get as much power as a manual if you have a good one.

The power gains and better torque would only be an added bonus. I really want to switch my car because I miss a 5 speed. Nothin' like the feeling of driving a stick. Just makes you feel all warm inside. Anyone have any suggestions on where I could find a good manual tranny and a manual ecu for my sexy beast?
