Any 3.0CL's in cold climates had to replace their tranny?

just curious as I'm at 65k miles and don't really notice any tranny problems, and thought that because I mostly drive at night when it is colder and in a considerably colder climate that maybe that woudl solve the problems cause with the heat issues with the 4AT transmissions.

Since in cali it get's hot as hell 100+ (it does that here during the summer), but it usually doesn't go below 60 there too often either during the winter (whereas here it gets to -10F sometimes), maybe that's why the tranny's fail, or maybe you all are to aggressive of drivers...

I'm still getting a dr evil tranny, but was just curious.

I think it is more maintenance and driving style, though the cold will certainly extend your transmission's life.

I live where it gets cold, I would have to agree and say that its prolly dependant on driving style as well, as many other possibilities.

But I am sure the cold doesnt hurt...

57k still going...

I always drive and try to minimize the shifting the transmission does. Meaning give it just enought throttle to accelerate/maintain speed, but not enough that it will downshift (excluding the WOT acceleration when mergning onto the highway on my way to shool and work every day )

You know, I've only WOT'd one time, I was on the highway, and I didn't do it at first... I was chasing, and I gated to D3 and gave it about 1/2 to 2/3 throttle. Then when I went back to D4, I pushed it to the floor.... The car was hurling down the road... I let off at around 115mph, the tac was around 4800 rpms and would have continued to pull had I not chickened out, but it was a two-lane state highway, (412) if you know Oklahoma... It is way north where the prisons, gas compression plants and power plants are. I was chasing a car that had passed me. I was on his tail, but it was dark, a little wet, I'd been driving for close to 600 miles, and my wife was asleep in the passenger seat. I was trying to figure out what I would have told her had we been stopped or crashed.

Anyway, that is the only time I've ever done WOT. I just don't see the point in driving my CL that hard.

lol, well I don't think it's the wot that really kills it, it's the constant shifting back and forth between 2nd and third gear. That's why when I'm in slow stop and go traffic on teh highway I just pop it into 2 so it does go 2>3>2>3>2>3>2>1>2, and just stays in 2nd gear. Probably another reason why my tranny is doing ok.

Don't do it!, a flush is a death sentence for a transmission that is already screwed. Just drain and fill untill you replace, then with the new one, you can safely flush.

are you serious? i thought it would be good to flush the whole system?

what about a change in fluid(drain,no flush)/lucas/tranny cooler?will that help or don't even bother?

drain it and put the lucus in it, the tranny will feel alot better and feel alot smoother. did this to my 3.0CL, and my dads 04TL and both trannys felt way better. i also put the lucus in my QX4 and it feels alot better. and also USE only the HONDA ATF, no other tranny fluids.

2nd gear max's out at about 79-80ish when it is tacked out. drving around in 2nd gear all the time would not really be to good for the tranny because the tranny will be turning at about 4k revs. now to me a tranny in 4th gear turning 1500 revs consistently is better then a tranny in second gear truning 4000revs and also the fact is that second gear is the gear that tends to fail and has the most problems.

Yeah, when you drive at 15 to 25 in a neighborhood and the transmission is jerking and twitching and not knowing what freaking gear it wants to be in... That shit is rich. Man, I had my CL for a month and it started cracking up. dude before me had taken it in, found out that shit was fucked, and decided to sell it. Of course, I am sure he put some stop slip and saw dust in there to hold it together for the first month I owned it. I should have checked the transmission fluid, but it looked so clean and I was missing my Teg. I just fell in and the rest is history.
