amp question

amp question

I'm kind of oblivious to what this shit means... can anyone help me out? translate "4 ohms bridged mono" into something more simple for a retard like me...? is this something i can control?... thanks for the help...

ok. say you have a subwoofer that is dual voice coil and each coil is 8 ohms...(or even two 8 ohm subs). if you paralell them together the amp will see 4 ohms. 8+8 = 4, 4+4 = 2 and so on. please let us know a little more about your setup and we can be of greater help.

thanks man... yeah, i got an amp, the specs say 700 watts at 4 ohms, bridged mono, i was going to get the new 12" alpine type-x subwoofer... but now that you say that, the alpine is dual 4-ohm voice coils... how much power am i gonna lose if its at 2 ohms not 4?

type x? go for the type-r's you can get them pretty cheap on ebay

you will gain power when you reduce the ohm load. however, you may want to check and make sure that amp can handle 2ohm operation.

"4 ohms bridged mono" simply means when bridging ur amp you have to use a 4 ohm load or higher (6, 8...), using a 2 ohm load will cause the amp to run hot and cut off. some amps can handle 2 ohms, or even 1 or .5, but if it says "4 ohms bridged mono", 4 ohms is the lowest
