Air intake

Hello,
I'm thinking of putting air intake into my 2.2 CL.

Seems like AEM is popular, but I found some low cost air intakes on Ebay.

What do you think? I personally don't think the brand name matters since it's pretty much a pipe. (But of course I'm new to this thing. So let me know.)

Is there anyone who tried those low cost air intakes or anyone who can help me decide which one should I go with?

Thanks,
Kee

why wouldn't there be a reason for a cold air intake?? Why would you want hot air from your engine bay to be sucked into your motor.
There is a reason why 9 out of 10 of us have the CAI....

I'm no expert, but someone who is explained it to me like this:
a CAI only gives you 1-2 more hp than a Short Ram Intake... (unless you have all kinds of mods, maybe it's different)... The CAI's i saw were about $100 more than the SRI... $100 for 2hp??

No disrespect to anyone with a CAI- I'm just not planning on taking my car to the track anytime soon so it wasn't worth it for me...

To answer your question, i got one of those cheap intakes... I paid $90 and i believe it's the same one that you saw for like $40. I say get that one... Just my opinion. I felt a difference but then again the sound sometimes plays tricks on you...

plus with CAI, depending on the precipitation in your area, you'll have to get a bypass valve which is another 40-45 bucks. SRIs are better because at speed, the hot air gets swept out of the engine bay anyway. With SRI, there's no chance of hydrolock. Plus it's cheaper

unlike others, since the SRI air filter will be behind the battery, it kinda blocks some direct heat from the exhaust manifold.

but, i'm no expert to this. this could be just an illusion of mine.

SRI vs CAI

Thanks for threads,
Does any of these increase the sound from the engine?
If then, how serious is this?

Thanks,
Kee

yes you will definatly get a better sound from your engine at higher rpms. Stick with the cold air intake, I had a short ram before. When I switched to the cold air I could definately tell a difference in power.
