ABS light

Hey all... my abs light started coming on every once in a while a couple days ago. It has gotten really cold out and I dont know if that is related. Any ideas? Where do I start trouble shooting? Thanks

does it stay on while you drive? Do you get a "grinding" noise?

No I dont have any noises. The light is just on. If I turn off the car it is off and back on it then comes on the same amount of time that it takes when I first start the car.

there are different sensors on each wheel. could be one of those. if one of your brakes isn't sending fluid back to the res. that could be it. you could need new pads....just so you know the ABS stops working when the light comes on. even if it's something small.

I called the dealer and they said each wheel has a sensor for the abs and it can be one of them...that aside, I needed new rotors/pads and a caliper. So none of these things is a remedy
The light is still on.

if you take out the ashtray there is a plug in there. take it to pepboys or one of those places that hook up the machine for free.

i think that its kinda normal for it to come on cuz i have read about this like 50 times.. someone said that it goes on because it is cold the fluid hasnt expanded and the car thinks it low.. i will believe that guy i'm too lazy to hook up my car to a sensor at work

And the Answer is....

Well at least in my case, it turns out to be a "Speed sensor, linked to the ABS computer". The ABS sensor is at each wheel, my left rear one is toasted. No big deal, it just means no ABS when the light is on. I talked to the Dealer in Halifax, it's $217 for the sensor and they say 40 minutes to put it in.

Seems like a rip off to me...

you dont have anything to scan, you cant take it to advance or whoever does those free "diagnostic check" those are for check engine lights only, not the abs light

the abs light would come on in my 3rd gen maxima, and the common problem was a speed sensor. that could very well be it.
