2nd gen Cl seats

I just spent about a half hour searching to see if the second gen CL seats would indeed fit in my first gen. I seen the Tehvine guy put the rears in but never got a clear answer on the front. Has anyone successfully done this or not? I'm only asking because I have an opportunity to pick up a clean pair of tan seats out of a part out car for 200 which is cheap. Thanks in advance.

I'm not entirely sure how much work it involves putting them in, but I'm pretty sure Allan was swapping a whole 2nd gen interior into his 1st gen, including the seats. He kind of disappeared from here though, maybe somebody else knows if he got it done.

Hmm.. classy interior of the 2nd gen mixed with the sexy looks of the 1st gen. I like where this is going! You should pick up those seats and let us know how it goes. Worse that could happen is having to sell them.

I think they would fit but it would be a tight fit. I'd say go for it, give it a try. Worst case scenario is that you sell them for more than you bought them for

That's what I was thinking. Or I talk my mom into letting me yank the passenger seat outta her 03 tl for a test fit before I buy these lol! That might not go over too well though as modding cars is a foreign concept to her. I'll keep you guys up to date regardless!

There was a guy on here that swapped 2nd gen seats on to his first gen seat frames, but never posted more info, can't remember his name, he was an older guy

Definitely report back if you do this

I removed the side air bags from the seats and stuffed the hole with foam. I still have to recover the inserts in the doors but already recovered the ones in the rear and the console lid

Jeeze! I wonder how much effort that involves Lol! Wondering how hard that would be to do cuz that might be the solution. I measured my moms 03 TL seat and compared it to mine today. It was right around 20-21 inches for both but my cl has a bump in the floor between the door and seat that looks like it could cause problems lol. Anyways, thanks a bunch Blackac

K fellas! You'll probably be disappointed but today I picked up a full set of 98 CL charcoal cloth seats in excellent condition for $60 bucks! Already put them in so check em out. Only bad thing is I lost my heated seats but no biggie!

The old seats are for sale by the way. They are nice except the drivers obviously!

I got your email and I responded before I saw this thread. To anyone else that wants to do the same thing I did the only problem I remember having is one of the holes had to be made bigger in the frame to accommodate the bottom seat cushion and I had to shorten one of the cables that works the passengers seat since its not electric. I am not sure if one of the cables in my old seat was broken and I used one from the new seat or what but I do remember having to do this but it may not be necessary. Hope this helps anyone else that wants to do a little modification to their First Gen. AS far as the back seat I just got a black leather seat from a first generation and swapped it in there in place of the cloth seat that was in there factory. There was a guy on here (can't remember his name but he was doing a whole 2nd gen swap (the engine and 6 speed trans and interior) from a wrecked 2nd gen he purchased. Now he did manage to get the rear seat in but I do not know what consisted of that swap as I never could find the rear seat from a 2nd gen for mine, another member on here that was close had junked a 98 CL and still had the rear seat so I went and purchased it from him on my swap

Timeizmoney22, since you are no longer using your heaters in your seats do you happen to have a 97? lol I ended up afro engineering my wiring to my heaters in the second gen seat from my 97 switch but am still looking for a plug that plugs into the heater switch (its an almost impossible part to find for the 97)

first is your car a 97 or a 98,99? If its not a 97 the part on yours will not work for me. I just need the plug that fits into the switch that controls the heater in the seats. The reason I have had such a hard time finding this is because its a 97 only part as 98 and 99 had separate switches for the driver and Passenger seats and 97 had the both built into one switch

Yeah mine's a 97. Is it the one that comes from the floor or is it part of the seat itself. Sorry i'm confused lol!

ok I will try to explain what I need. I am guessing since you said you lost your heated seats (and since its a 97) that you had one switch beside the shifter that controlled both heaters in both seats. I need the plug end that plugs into that switch. My car came factory with cloth seats and I installed 2003 leather(if you want to call it leather) seats in mine and I have no wiring to control the heaters in the seats. I have made my own wiring until I can find the plug but It is hard to find that plug since it was only available like that for the 97 model (98 and 99 had a separate switch for each seat). If you are unwilling to cut the plug off or unwilling to remove the whole wiring leading to the plug from the seat under the carpet I understand I was just grabbing at straws and had to ask

I'll do it when I have a chance if you cover shipping and maybe $5 extra for my trouble.

Did you guys check to see if the heater burnt out. Mine did on the bottom and back rest. I'd check continuity of the circuit to make sure. I fixed mine in roughly 3-4 hrs. pain in the ass but totally worth fixing.

Mine is actually hotter now, since I had to remove a couple inches of wire and only had 18 gauge laying around to replace it. It's a very niccceeee! Also added more lumber support while I was in there.

sure, sorry I have been having a few family problems and this is the first time I have been on here since I asked.

The heaters work fine in the 2nd gen seats. I had cloth interior in my car from the factory so I had to make a wiring harness that plugs into the switch that fits in the console to turn the heaters on, thats why I would like to have a factory plug to plug into the switch if I could find one and do away with the wiring I have plugged into it now
