Quanaman's NBP Type-S Progress Thread: Updated 12/24/14
Hey all!
I picked up this TL in early January and have been spending more money than I can keep up with on mods. It was a long time coming. I've always wanted one, but couldn't afford it previously since I'm still in school.
Since I couldn't afford a TL before, I chose to buy a 03 Black/Black Accord EX-L Coupe, V6 6MT. Man, that car was amazing. I loved it; it was fast and it was my favorite color combo. What killed it for me was the fact that it was two doors and the mileage was getting up there on it. I ended up selling it and putting money on top to buy the TL. I'm thankful to say I don't have a car note
So, I sold that and I had always kept my eye out for a good deal on a TL. I was searching for SSM/NHP/WDP, but came across this DGP at a deal I couldn't pass up. I didn't even know they came in green, and the interior was the last one I wanted, but it had Navi, the price was right, and the buyer had done ALL previous maintenance
Its a 2004, Automatic, DGP on Parchment with Navi. I got it with 110k Miles
So far, I've done the following mods
-Tint (35% in the front, 20% in the back)
-07-08 tails or S-Type tails
-OEM Vent Visors
-Rear lip spoiler
-eBay Kyonick roof spoiler
-A-Spec Kit
-Nokya Yellow Fog bulbs
-Black Painted Calipers
-Ichiba 20mm Spacers (Rear)
-USA-Spec Ipod Input
As for maintenance that I've done:
-Redline Racing Type F
-3rd/4th Gear switches
-New Power steering pump/hoses
-NGP Iridium Plugs
-New shocks and struts all the way around
-Duralast Cmax Gold Brake Pads
Future Mods:
-Type S wheels
-3m Di-Noc Interior
-3m Di-Noc grill mod
-03-05 Accord Fogs (Amber)
Now for some pics of my previous ride; which I know miss:
and the one before it
Here are some pics from when I bought the TL:
And after some of the mods:
And after the Tint:
And I had these rims on it for a bit, but they're up for sale now in the BM

Thanks! I loved the legend too, long story about it actually. It had always wanted one since I was younger, but it was up to me to buy it on my own. I ended up buying a legend with a bad motor and parting it out completely. When i saved enough money, I bought that one. It was the highest GS model, and was my first car. I bought it with a blown headgasket, got it fixed, and drove it for about 6 months until a former friend hit me and totaled it, then told the insurance company it wasn't his fault. I got screwed Oh well though, lesson learned.
Yes sir! haha. thanks!
As for everyone who said it could use a drop...I should have mentioned this earlier haha. I had been going back and forth about a drop for a while. I wanted to, but my car already scrapes my driveway when I pull in, (even before the A-Spec kit) I think its that lower valance lol. I've found that if I back in or turn in crooked, it usually doesn't scrape. There are also a bunch of speed bumps on my way to and from work, and in my neighborhood. If I could, I'd definitely drop it...but its impractical for me . I got a great deal from a buddy of mine for the stock shocks/struts and couldn't pass it up. In the future though, I think the most I'll do is about an inch.
Thanks for all the kind words
Updates to come later!

No actually, the roof spoiler isn't pictured yet. I have it on there. I got it on ebay from a seller named Kyonick. I'm sure he's still around. They ship out of Hong Kong IIRC, and I messaged him and asked if he could paint it DGP. He did, and it came out really well actually I'll update with some pics of it installed later. It was like 85$ shipped IIRC

Updates!
Hey guys!
Got a few updates to post up.
First is up is the 3m Di-Noc. Definitely love this mod. was never fond of the wood trim my car came with, and picked this stuff up on ebay for 44 bucks (8 sq. feet) the install was pretty straight forward. I took apart the center console and wrapped everything, then took apart the door panels and wrapped the wood there as well. Door panels were much harder to work with because as it turns out, the wood and metal trim is all one peice, so on the side where the metal meets the wood, i had to cut (very carefully) with an x-acto knife instead of wrapping it behind (definitely the better, easier option). I wanted to cover a few more things, but I chose just to cover the areas that had the wood. I didn't want to end up doing too much; definitely wanted it to appear stock. In the end I like it a lot actually, I think it goes really well with the silver trim. Next up will be the grill, since I think I have enough di-noc left
The driver's side came out slightly less than perfect, so I may end up re-doing it. While i was taking the door panels apart, I chose to cut down the door lock knobs. They've always been way too damn tall for my taste, and i always somehow manage to hit my funny bone when I put my elbow up there as I drive.
Enough talk, here are the pics!

Car's looking good =)

Thanks!
Not too hard at all. There are about 4 screws on each door panel and then a bunch of clips. Then there are about 10 screws holding the metal/wood trim in place. Its not hard, just repetitive work. Definitely worth it though!
Thanks! The ASA AR7 wheels I had on there for a bit are 19x8. I've listed them in the black market for sale.

Update: 5/11/2011
Hey all!
I have a few updates over the last few weeks. Some of this stuff was pictured in other threads but I haven't posted them to my progress thread just yet. I washed her today with Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax, and then waxed her with Meguiar's NXT Wax. I'm loving the results, and i don't think it looks too bad for my first waxing job!
Latest additions:
-Aluminum Pedals (eBay)
-Type-S wheels with 245/45/R17 Michelin Pilot Primacy tires
-20mm Ichiba wheel spacers in the rear
-Interior bulbs changed to bright white LEDs
-Red Door LEDs
I'm very happy with the progress so far. The only thing I'm still slightly iffy about is the wheels. When I bought them, two of the wheels were slightly curbed. I had them sanded down smooth and I used Dupli-Color Graphite Gray Metallic spray paint (several coats of color, several coats of clear). Originally, it looked like a near perfect match. After it all dried though, the painted two ended up much darker than the stock Type-S color (much darker in person than in the pics). For right now, I have the darker two on the passenger's side and the lighter stock ones on the driver's side. I think I like the stock color better, but I'm not sure what I can do. Should I paint the last two stock ones darker gunmetal as well? Paint all four a different color? What do you guys think?
Also, the license plate is temporary until I can figure out a better place to put it. Input+product links are welcome

-Black Painted Calipers

-Debaged Rear

Well, I was bored tonight and decided to go have a "photoshoot," if you can call it that. Just me and my iPhone 4
I also took some night time pics of the bright white LEDs. They're ridiculously white!
Here's the results. I'm definitely no good at this photography stuff...

His camera isnt bad. we've all seen worse on here. If you want your pix cleaned up/enhanced before you post, feel free to email them to me parasurfer1979@gmail.com. Many here can tell you I do good work. I do nothing to dr. up the pix. I cleean up the graininess and color saturation.
I digress though. Im liking you car now. It looked a mess at 1st post. The best mod yet is switching the wood grain to CF in the console and doors.

Haha, thanks. Yes the plate is only temporary. I'm trying to figure out a better place to mount it; I want the RHO plate, but $60?
I don't like too many stickers either; but those were just a few I liked. I wish i could take off the plate, but here in VA it's just asking to be pulled over. When you add in the tint to my car, it's like riding around with a bullseye!
I'm debating on getting H&R Springs! But theres so many things on my mod list right now...Ah!
Haha, I'd get a super nice camera, but even if I did, I wouldn't have the skills to use it!
Thanks! I love the wheels; I just can't decide what to do since two of them are darker than the other two. About the steering wheel, I tried to put it on, but stripped one of the damn star bolts...So I'm not sure what to do at this point
Thanks! and thanks for the offer!

I like the plate off to the side
<----------------
and it sure beats getting ticketed for no front plate. The key is to get it mounted straight and properly, not just ziptied and hanging.

MashaAllah! I've been trying to find a good tint for my deep green pearl TL. I do not like the color of the black on it, but believe that that's my only option since metallic is not recommended for Bluetooth, keyless entry, etc. How dark are your back windows?
p.s. where'd you get your 'mashaAllah' sticker? I want one for my car too!

I picked up this same car a month ago... Its a DGP 04 TL 6MT Navi, Its a nice car but the guy swapped the wheels and I will be looking for the stock ones soon... Looks like this guy downgraded the wheels!
I did take your idea on the carbon fiber to get rid of the wood! Thanks for the idea, I bought the same stuff off of ebay and it worked great! But on the doors, I layed the carbon a little over the silver part and then used the exacto knife and when I pulled off the part laying on the silver it took off all of the texture!!! HAHA well it was beat up anyway so I ended up warping the whole silver and wood piece on the door and it turned out nice! Ill post a pic later... I am planning on using the overlay on all of the silver in the car since its so warn and it expansive to replace though Acura...

I'm glad you it worked for you! I love the carbon fiber in my car...makes such a huge difference!
Definitely post a pic of how it looks! I've been debating on covering up the silver that goes from the cupholder up to the stereo because mine is pretty worn out too. I'm torn because the CF looks so good, but the contrasting silver color is great too. I'd love to see how it turns out.
