Ok so, I took off the door on the second cubby, the one with the 'not an ashtray', so I could install my TomTom there. Anyways the time has come where I find it very annoying to control my GPS behind the gearshifter.

Anyways, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to re-install the spring loaded door. I'm usually good with these things... The main problem I have is how the 2 springs sit in place. The rest is simple.

Any help??

it looks very complicated to me.
I also took out my not an ashtray, and replaced it with
the EDFC controller for my suspension.
I left the door there though.

when I took the cubby out, and examined the door, I found it
to be too complicated and just bought a whole new cubby
frame for about $60.



so I can't be of much help in telling you how to get the door
back on, I would probably just buy a new cubby.

I can however, if you wish, take a picture of the assembly with the
door on and in place so you can have a reference if you want... ?

don't mind the dust and the white stuff.
I just got done sanding the new epoxy internal frame that supports
the EDFC unit in proper position.
it's hard to get a look at what it looks like internally there, it's all
covered up, these are the best shots I could get for you:

If I remember correctly the side of my cubby doesnt look like that. I'm pretty sure everything is exposed. I have and 06 and I think MM's is an 07 so maybe they changed it. If I get a chance after work today I'll try to snap a pic or two for you....

My 04 looks different too. I think that large flat black plastic piece with the screw in it is less of a plate and more of an arm in the earlier models. My guess is this design is cheaper to manufacture. It looks like the same mechanism underneath though.

I fixed it!! Thanks a lot for the pictures MMs! It took about 2 hours of frustration, patience, and calming music to get the springs in lol.

btw the hinges on my 04 are identical to MMs 08. This is the bottom door, not the storage cubby door.

Thank you so much for this thread. I was installing an iPhone mount and i took apart the door and couldn't get the damn springs back in. Here is my final product.



The iPhone(or iPod) sits nicely there and rest right under the lip of the upper compartment. It fits perfect. Thanks for the pics!

Interesting approach. I would want to be able to not have the connector hanging out all the time though. Easier said than done though which is why I still have mine hooked up in the arm rest.

Well yes, easier said then done. This is not exactly how i envisioned it to be. I wanted to be able to close the bottom door but since the connector i have is so big (Connector from Blitzsafe UII) it wont' close unless I cut out some of the "not an ashtray" part.

Either way though i usually have the phone connected when i'm in the car so having the connection there works for me. I like having the phone easily accessible to me when driving which is why that placement works nicely, also I didn't want to have a mount sticking out somewhere on the dash.

I recently had a problem with my "not an ashtray" cubby closing too far (ie, below flush with the center console) and closing in a jerky fashion. I pulled it out of the car and played with it a bit, and the thing that struck me most was how much of a royal bitch it was to re-assemble everything. I seem to have fixed my problem with the cubby, but if it acts up again, I'm just going to buy a new one. Sheesh.

Guys, sorry to bring this topic back but is there anyone who can take me a pix of side of the top cubby. I was trying to installl the isimple tonight and somehow when I try to put the cubby back...it doesn't close anymore. I must have lost the spring somewhere. Can someone upload me a pix so I can compare what I am missing. btw to the member that already install the isimple..where did u hide the actual box?? I couldnt really find anywhere that can find it.
