Exclamation The War of the Windshield Wipers

Hello all, I have been searching on the web for hours and hours and have tried almost everything and still can't figure this out, I'm at my wits end.. I have terrible streaking on the drivers side of the windsheild only. I have tried cleaning the windshield with rubbing alcohol, vinegar, all kinds of household cleaners etc. I have bought and returned two sets of windshield wipers (rain-x brand) thinking it was a faulty wiper. Still no luck. I checked the pressure of the windshield arm by bending it a bit down, bending it a bit higher, and even twisting it a bit to change the angle of the blade on the windshield. No luck. The main issue is that when the passenger side wiper overlaps the streaks of the driver's side wiper they disappear and the passenger's side wiper wipes it beautifully. This rules out any build up on the windshield and I've already tried all the wiper arm angle/pressure possibilities... Any ideas anyone?? I would greatly appreciate it!!

If you've only tried Rain-X, try another brand. I go on Amazon and read all the owner reviews. Some brands fair much better than others, but it's not across the board. You may need to try a couple brands like Bosch, Trico and Valeo. And different models within the brands have different elastomeric materials, some perform better in certain climates than others.

Nothing works better than OEM.

Oem

Just buy new OEM insert blades shouldn't be more than 10 bucks each. But you probably already did some damage by trying to change angle and pressure on the arm. OEM insert blades have always been good to me for the past 15 years that I owned Hondas...

Finally, a reasonable response. And here's a Bosch model (they market as "OEM") that gets almost 5 out of 5 stars from reviewers, and it ain't cheap at $35 a pair. But note that it is made primarily of natural rubber, so its life may be less than say a silicone material. Like i said, you may need to try more than one type.

the piaa refill blades are less than $10 each on amazon. so....for around $20 you can get the piaa refills.

My response was reasonable, jerk. Over the last 4 decades I have tried Anco, Bosch and Rain-X on various cars and never got better or as good as results compared to OEM.

What's good for you probably isn't good for everyone, jerk yourself. To say that "nothing works better than OEM" is juvenile at best. Qualify that with "...for me" and you get a pass.

keep it calm both of you guys...

I just put some TRICO blades on my car which have gotten great reviews from many people. They don't streak and work very well! As well on the passenger side, the blade fits very well unlike the BOSCH ICON's which don't wipe a bit of the windshield because they can't curve that much to contour the windshield.

Ok. Good to know csmeance. I'm calm, just get a little irritated when someone makes an absolute statement about a consumable like a windshield wiper blade when its obvious that there are viable (read other and better) alternatives. An elastomer material optimized for the Texas desert region will probably not perform well in the Northern cold regions. There,,,,,I feel better now

My rain-x latitudes are good except the passenger side all the way to the right misses a spot. It seems that the wiper itself cannot contour enough to match the windshield.

Is your streaking at highway speeds only?

I get the same thing on my Odyssey using Michelin Stealth blades. I wonder if some of the larger Honda/Acura vehicles have a problem with a one piece wiper blade design.

Here is my review of the various brands.
Rain-X sucks. The wiper itself is good. The mounting clip is poorly designed and can actually fall apart in use which results in your wiper blade falling off the arm.
Trico Neoform are very well made and work well. Bosch Icon are just as good. Michelin "blade" wipers are falsely advertised. If you look at the design. It is a traditional "clawed" blade with a one piece plastic cover to make it look like the newer blade wipers.
On the MDX I have noted that at 70+ mph, my driver blade lifts which results in some streaking (I currently have Michelin wipers). The OEM wiper seemed to avoid lifting. The Trico Neoform also was better at not lifting.
Bottom line: I will only buy Trico or Bosch from now on.

beam blade.... hate them. they work great until they break, then the bracket scratches the crap out of your windshield. had this happen to me with rain-x latitude blades... there goes $40 worth of wiper blades. never again.

piaa super silicone!!! no issues, no streaking...oh wait i said that already earlier in the thread.

I use $10 Michelin's that I buy regularly from Costco, for that price you cant really go wrong...I replace them annually and have only had one defective wiper blade (started leaving streaks after a month or so).

A lot of issues with streaking on the drivers side are common with aftermarket beam blades on a lot of newer Acuras and Hondas. The reason for this is that the beam blades need the center pressure point for them to work properly. A lot of the newer Acuras and Hondas have a stabilizer screwed into the driver's wiper arm. If not removed, it will press down on the blade causing two pressure points. So, stay OEM, or remove to go aftermarket.

The center stabilizer should be removed from aftermarket blades.
