Rust Never Sleeps...

I have a 2006 MDX that has developed rust underneath the hood on both sides. It has apparently gone all the way through the hood on one side and shows as bubbles near the edge. The car is washed weekly and stored in a garage. Acura claims it was caused by a stone chip and won't honor the warranty. I have taken it to a reputable body shop and they claim it's a defect and needs a new hood. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Welcome aboard! Gonna move to the MDX section as it may be an MDX specific issue. You should also consider searching the MDX section to see if any others have had a similar issue.

FWIW the Acura's I owned never had great paint. I am not sure how Acura can claim the rust is from a stone chip if the rust is underneath the hood. You may have to get something in writing from the bodyshop and take it to them. If that doesn't work, threaten to go to the local media. If that doesn't work, may need to lawyer up.

Depends how far you want to take it. It's gonna be tough to prove it's a defect though...

My 2004 MDX does not have a spec of rust on it. My new car is to new to see yet. After this winter will tell how it holds up...

Have you checked the rear underneath by the bumper?

My 2004 has a few spots but I thought it was from paint chips. Now I will have to check under the hood.
Thanks

I believe there is a corrosion warranty, it needs to be inspected by a body shop, get proper documentation and contact Acura Client Services.

Search around how long the corrosion warranty is good for, I'm pretty sure being an 06 you should still be covered.

^I tried to get them to cover my hatch on the 04 but they wouldn't. I think the warranty goes to 80K now that I think about it, I came in at 85 or something...should have taken it further but I just left and forgot about it. Got the hatch painted and everything is fine.
