Unhappy iPhone 4S Phonebook Problem

I can pair the phone with hands free link without a problem, but it will not import the phonebook. Software makes the connection and says "importing phone book" for about 10 minutes and then it says it failed.

I had no problem with previous iPhone (3G). My guess is that it is a bug that may or not be addressed by either Acura or Apple. If you know about this or have a solution, I'd appreciate it.

My vehicle is 2009 MDX.

Update: I still cannot get the MDX to import the iPhone 4S phonebook. However, I still have my old iPhone 3. Even though it is no longer connected to AT&T's service, I was able to activate Bluetooth on the phone and then pair the old phone to the MDX. Once I did that, I was able to import the old phone's phonebook into the MDX. Not a perfect solution, but better than not having a phonebook in the MDX.

Very Interesting ...
I was going to get a 4S but due to this thread and confirmed no MDX phone book update - perhaps no.
Does any one else have phone compatibility problems {Pickup / Call Link or PhoneBook} with the other phones that use Android ??

There may be another explanation.

1. First, the iPhone 4S will pair and does work with HandsFree Link.
2. Second, the MDX will not import the iPhone 4S phone book.

So, why won't it import the phonebook?

1. It could be that something is peculiar to the iPhone 4S itself that will not work with HandsFree.
2. On the other hand, it may be that the new operating system for the iPhone (OS5) is doing something that will not allow importation of the phone book.

I was able, as stated previously, to import the 3G phonebook. However, that phone has not been updated with the new operating system. So, at this time, I cannot say whether the problem is with the iPhone 4S specifically or whether it is a compatibility issue with the latest update of the operating system for all iPhones.

If you have an iPhone other than the 4S and you have updated it using iTunes to the latest operating system, please reply to this post and let us know if your phone will now import it's phone book.

For Phoneboook import from iPhone4S to the nav, make sure you turn on Sync Contacts. You do that by going into bluetooth and touch the right arrow next to the Handsfreelink and it gives you a menu fo which feature you want to turn on, just turn on Sych Contacts and that should work.

For the Siri question. Siri is a internal iPhone function and the Handsfreelink does not have the ability to totally take control of your iPhones functionality. You can only use the canned voice command for the Handsfreelink on the Acura to make phone calls and not have a worldly conversation with Siri or any other personal assistant on your phone.

I have the HTC Hero for Sprint and it seems to function very nicely, no problems on my end. It also works well with my wife's Blackberry Curve.

I am having the same problem as the OP, and my "Sync Contacts" was on. The phone paired fine, but importing contacts fails repeatedly. I have a Verizon 4S and a 2010 MDX with Tech.

Here is the solution that I got from another board...it worked for me (the suggestion to turn on "Sync Contacts" doesn't work). Start importing your contacts, and while that is happening touch "Handsfreelink" in your Bluetooth settings on your iPhone. Then you should only have to wait a couple of minutes for the import to work.

Note that the CS folks at Handsfreelink said they are still trying to get a 4S to start testing, but with this workaround you can at least get your contacts imported.

KevinMR - Fantastic! This worked...how funny that it is something so simple. I know this is an Acura forum but this worked on my Honda '10 Crosstour navi system with a new iPhone 4s. I'm sure these are the same systems - couldn't find the solution elsewhere. Many Thanks!

Isn't that an iPhone issue?

My iphone 4S has been acting very erratically lately in the MDX. I will make calls and the phone rings at the other end (I know that because my wife has been the victim of these a lot) but I don't hear anything. I have no idea that I'm connected...just nothing. I hang up and try again and sometimes it works and sometimes not. My wife is getting tired of these phantom calls.

I applied this "fix" by reconnecting the Bluetooth Handsfreelink while import the iPhone 4s phonebook. It worked perfectly. My problems of connecting and calling are gone. I am sharing the "fix" with the local Acura dealership as they have been scratching their heads trying to correct this problem.

^^^ Note to phone users ....
I re paired my new I Phone to my MDX and it appears the case I was
using some what interfered with the pairing process.
Anyway after 3 tries it did it the first time w/o the case.
I have a Star Trek communicator case.
Kirk did not have such problems with Scotty.
Remove the case and pair it if you have problems.
