High Mileage Club: 200K+ miles owners check-in

I know several of you have reached the 200K+ mile milestone, some probably 300K miles by now. Post up, and let us know what repairs you've made outside of recommended service intervals.

PS: Please don't clog the post by posting "My MDX only has 50K miles, so I got a long way to go". That's not what this thread is for.

I'm at 245K on an '01 MDX. No major issues or big maintenance except that the AC/heater has required a lot of maintenance. I'm now starting to see sensor failures (I hope) based on intermittent VTM4 light (always clears with no action) and CEL because of various cylinder misfires. Also my tranny is acting up; sometimes won't make it to 3rd gear - I think that's a pressure switch but having a hard time finding a diagram which shows a 2001 tranny - can anyone point me to a site that has detailed parts diagrams for MDX's? Thanks.

2001 w 200K miles...

1. Back window defogger quit. The wire bundle in the hatch door was frayed 'open' because it was rubbing on something.
2. My "Outside Temp" display in the lower left hand part of the display was blank*. When the temp was working, usually briefly, the mode of heat/cool would work fine. When it is blank, you are stuck with a default (I think) setting for the fan.
3. Multiple LED lights out in the nav, radio and inside temp console.
4. My clock is a victim of the 0:00 ordeal. I sure hope they figure out how to fix it. It's annoying to not have my clock there that I've had for almost 17 years!
5. I have a newer transmission from the recall in 2004, I believe.

* A few times in the cold winter days, the outside temp will read (and seemingly accurate).

2003 TLS currently @ 233+.. Owned for 3+ years, purchased @ 196K. Everything on this car works properly, everything! Diamond white pearl with ebony trim, still look as they would on a well maintained 40,000 mile car. Other than routine maintenance, VTEC solenoid failed, easy fix, new oil pan, due to stripped drain plug threads, prior to purchase. The One thing that amazes me about this car is that it does not use One Pint of engine oil between 5K change intervals. Did exhibit slight 2-3 up-shift "Shudder" within last 10K miles, but that was immediately corrected with a 4X4 DW1 transmission fluid exchange, and to date, has not recurred. I LOVE THIS CAR

Skirmich - Yes, appears the drive train is fine. I feel pretty good that only recently my car has started to nickle and dime me. A lot of the money is going into expensive maintenance stuff that is due, like the timing belt, front sway bar links, engine mounts...ugh!

2003 TLS. I tried to get a picture at exactly 400k but it didnt work out too hot. Besides general maintenance this car has needed nothing major. ** The transmission is on its third rebuild. Still running great! MIL came on last night though, so I have to check that out.

Suebee if you can do some of these repairs yourself you will save a bunch of money. Most of the cost in a timing belt job and engine mounts is labor.

I earlier mentioned one of the little things wrong with my car is that the outside temp doesn't read anything in the lower right of the computer screen. Does anyone know what controls that? My local Acura service dept said I needed to replace the climate control unit that is a panel above the screen. I had heard the temp probe is somewhere in the front bumper or wheel well (?). The climate control unit controls the inside temp of the car, so I was wondering how replacing it would fix the outside temp reading.

Oviously owned by a very maticulous person! All records were with owner. Only problem so far is navigation not letting me do anything but see “please wait, loading new software”

There should be a sensor in the front bumper area before the radiator to get outside temp readings.

Just Google it and you find the part for your make and model vehicle

maintainance

I'm at 192,000 miles on my 03 MDX. Have always had all services done at dealer. Wondering what to expect. Do I need timing belt changed again? Had trans replaced a couple years ago. What else is required?

243K and going strong

my 01 MDX has 243 and change on it. I just replaced the AC compressor, condensor, o-rings and r134. still don't have rear air, but I think that is either the relay or resistor.
new radiator, hoses, alternator, timing belt and water pump. I will drive this bad boy until it will not move. AWD

I did TBelt package @ 105k and intend on doing again @ 210k.

I stay on top of all other fluids etc and just replaced my OEM alternator on Sunday.

wow!!!!! That is amazing. I’m hopefully gonna be picking up a 2012 mdx with less than 75000 on it so it’s just a baby still but i only hope to get close to that kinda mileage!!!

My 2001 has 296K on it. I get a shudder during one of the shifts every now and then and the "fix" is to immediately back off and reaccelerate. It locks in then. The navigation unit only rarely shows the climate controls but otherwise works. No clock for over a year now, just like the rest of you. Some clunks in the front end. I use D4 when not on the expressway due to the known hunting issue. Mileage is 18 to 23 MPG and the car otherwise works very well. I added junkyard trailer hitch and running boards.

I love 💕 my MDX. It was my son’s first car and now I have it back! 206,000 miles and no major issues. Did need a new ignition switch/cylinder which I paid for and then found out was recalled in this Model year. Also - the 2 front seats need leather repair and headlights a bit fuzzy. Other then that - pure joy!

i used this company to refinish the front seats on my 2006 MDX. If you search on here you can find the thread with before and after pics. I was amazed with the results. They came to my house and did it. https://www.fibrenew.com

My 2008 MDX single owner 209830 Miles as of yesterday. So far no complaints, except, I had to disconnect the Bluetooth module to avoid battery draining. Hopefully I can get another 100,000 with out any major issues

I had the first year MDX model. Turned it in at 289,000 miles. Hopped in a 2011 with 8,000 miles on it. Managers car. Just turned 170,000 on it and going strong. Hoping to break the 1st one I owned mileage. Son will take it over next year for his first car.

I am now approaching 301K. This is my second car and hauler so it only gets a few thousand miles per year, increasing the likelihood of a continuing life. Recent failure was the alternator, probably the original. The front bearing locked up, which, in case you have any doubt, will prevent the engine from turning over fast enough to start. Test is to remove the accessory belt and try again. A $20 Pull-a-Part alternator from a Pilot put that straight. Look for a rebuilt unit, if possible, since these cars (mine is 2001) all have high mileage.

The 2 to 3 shift "shudder", experienced on rare occasion requires backing off and "re-accelerating" to get past. Rarely requires a second application. Probably the torque converter and not nearly serious enough to consider mitigation.

The "no climate controls" and "no temp display" on the navigation screen continues to be intermittent, with the temp appearing slightly more often. Due to inexpensive availability of parts from the above junkyard I have eliminated the display itself and also the climate control panel above the screen. Gentlemen and ladies, that only leaves the navigation DVD unit located under the passenger seat. Since it NEVER flickers back and forth, I have deemed wiring an unlikely fault source. BY the way, I actually had a screen begin to fail. It was looking discolored in the center and difficult to read without leaning to the right. When replacing the screen, no navigation code is required. The code is married to the player; not the screen.

The radio/CD/cassette unit rarely has panel lights working. When I remove it in the midst of troubleshooting, on rare occasion the local volume control works BACKWARDS. The steering wheel control remains normal. One can either live with it or simply disconnect it and put the code back in. Usually flips back around.

The clock problem is also within the DVD navigation player, as far as I can tell. By the way, Acura "solved" this problem in 2004. They added a clock to the radio. At least on one unit. No fix is forthcoming from Honda/Acura. These vehicles are going to the salvage yards every day now, most with 200 to 300K miles on them. No one cares anymore. The simplest fix is to get a radio unit from a mid-model refresh car (2004-2006).

Make no mistake, there is something about this particular model SUV. They look better and seem better than any of its peers. And they seem a lot bigger than the next generation, 2007-2011 or so. That may be an illusion, of course. Since I rarely have even a single passenger, the 2nd and 3rd row seats have not been seen in a good while. I still think that the Gen 1 cars look the best. Could not locate the 300K ODO pic but here's the entire vehicle doing its work. The running boards and trailer hitch all came from the junkyard.

I just replaced both Camshafts, seals, gaskets and any related o'rings. It looked pretty good inside and would suggest replacing your PCV valve every couple of years. Probably running thicker synthetic oil wouldn't hurt and only help your duty cycle. This one has been very good for me and I hope it goes another 250,000. My only problem is the Vented seats don't work, if anyone has any links or input I'd appreciate it. The 3 segment button works and lights up but no blower function. Thanks

Just broke in good, I need to get some current pics. I'm in the process of buffing and applying Gyeon ceramics afterwards.

Update: I am at 243000 now. didn't drive much in Covid season. Had to change the Oxygen sensor. By trunk lock got stuck, had to replace it. Not sure when to change my water pump, timing belt ..etc

Not quite 200K but 175k on our ‘11 MDX Tech and the first and only issue was a prop shaft carrier bearing binding (@165k) causing vibration. Replaced the whole driveshaft assembly. Bought certified with 30k and the most reliable car we have ever owned. Numerous family road trip vacation throughout the USA. Every maintenance done @dealer based on Maintenance Minder as they were actually cheaper than the local oil change place. Only Acura/Honda fluids since brand new.
