Engine mount replacement on 2004 MDX
Engine mount replacement on 2004 MDX
Was told by the mechanic who did my valve adjustment that I need new engine mount. Thought of DIY to save every penny for a car has 4K value only. It's a 2004 MDX Base with 190K miles.
Questions:
1. The mechanic said all aftermarket mounts were junk and recommended me to buy OE. However, OE mounts are expensive. Can anyone with the experience of aftermarket mounts share?
2. The mechanic said to replace all mounts at the same time. Do I have to?
3. For all the mounts, including engine and transmission, how difficult or easy can they be done by DIY? I have the floor jack but no lift. Have the general tools like impact wrench, sockets....
Any though, recommendation, tip.... is welcome and appreciated!

If you don't mind my adding: Many techs in my area claim the OEM mounts aren't built much better than some aftermarket options, they saw too many OEM's failing far too early.
Yes replacement is possible using a combination of jack stands and navigation of floor jack/wood block. Take your time and raise/lower in small increments for each.
Doubtful "all" of your mounts are bad however. The front mount being a likely culprit.

I believe the side mount gets damaged first, then the front...the rear pretty much stays intact unless you've been driving on broken mounts for a while. or was the case for me.
I changed mine with just a floor jack only...using the floor jack with a flat board to lift the oil pan/engine.
