Well that could have ended poorly!
Although I'm sure it did for at least one guy...

BFE Nebraska with no cell phone coverage. He's long gone I'm sure. Almost thought he did it on purpose...

Wasn't that footage caught on a police camera?
Either way, the guy that hit the ditch had to have messed something up. He's lucky if he didn't!

Damn that is crazy. Good thing you were able to go over the side like that with no obstructions. Normally there are guardrails, telephone poles, signs or at least mile markers on the side.
Could have also messed up the undercarriage. I take it you're not lowered. My car would have been plowing mud, lol.

Obviously your eyes have much better resolution than your dashcam - we hear you gear down and start to maneuver long before it becomes clear what's happening.
Have three thoughts:
1. Shows that the best safety comes from an alert driver operating a responsive car.
2. That's no drunk driver. He - for surely it must be a he - deliberately tried to run you off the road, or was trying to engineer a suicide by head on collision.
3. This is why many jurisdictions require both front and rear lic. plates....
4. I hope you've forwarded this to your local law enforcement. Can't be many green 7th generation Cadillac De Villes with a landau roof.
Glad to hear that you and your TL are doing fine, however. Well done, btw, many drivers would see the car but would act like a deer in headlights.

^^^ The more I review the video, the more I'm convinced it was an attempted suicide. He went over 2 rumble strips and never corrected course. And yes, I'll be sending the video to the Nebraska State Patrol tomorrow.
FYI, for those wondering, the shoulder/ditch was extremely smooth, just high, unmowed grass. The noise you hear is nothing more than the high grass slapping my undercarriage.

I've had something similar happen to me in the past, although it wasn't as drastic. The driver coming towards me fell asleep behind the wheel, during the day, and came more than halfway into my lane. Lucky for me, he woke up and pulled back into his lane in time. I shit my pants just a little. I was a single lane highway in the dead of winter in the middle of nowhere and if I had to go into the ditch, I wouldn't have came out.
Maybe he was trying to commit suicide, but that seems like a really bad way of going about it. I mean, there's no guarantee the other driver would die. Severely injured? Likely. Dead? Maybe, but not for sure. I'm thinking he fell asleep. Those rumble strips are loud, but I've met some deep sleepers in my time. Either way, it's really messed up and terrifying.
I'm willing to bet that sending the video to police will do nothing. Same if the guy had a front plate. You can't prove who was driving the car at this point- who will the police charge?

Glad all is well. I would think either alcohol or one of several possible medical conditions was to blame. Could have been a game of chicken too? I doubt it was a truly determined suicide attempt. Logic would dictate the chance of ending up a either vegetable or crippled is just too high when driving into another passenger car.

Initially, I did not know what to expect while watching your video. The last thing I was expecting to see what another driver deliberately drive into your lane forcing you off the highway.
Glad to read/see you didn't get hurt.

Glad you are okay OP.
Don't wanna jack this thread but what's the deal with dashcam tech nowdays? How is it set up? Is it set to auto record everytime you start your car up? What happens with the old footage and how convenient is it? I'm interested in picking one up but if I have to manually hit record everytime, I'd probably forget, thus defeating the purpose of having one in the first place lol.
