Just picked up a 2007 base TL

I picked a 2007 TL with 80K miles last week for my dad. I have a 2013 TL FWD Tech bought new, now at 35K miles. I've always enjoyed looking at 3G TLs and loved the style. So far I've done:

1. New Michelin PS A/S 3: They are very quiet, smooth and just so much better than the Yokohama 580 they replaced. I originally went for the DWS but nobody had them so I went with the AS3.

2. I got the infamous "Tighten gas cap" message. Thanks for the information from the forum, I got the Purge Valve Solenoid replaced. Also got the air filter replaced. No more light so far. An added benefit: gas mileage went to 20 to 25mpg. I am not really sure the PVS did it or the filter did it but I am very happy overall.

3. I also got the drive belt squeak when the engine is cold due to misaligned AC compressor. Thanks again for the info on this forum, I got it fixed per the TSB.

4. Changed engine oil and transmission fluid.

5. Changed the AC filter. It's more involving than on my 4G but all is well.

Compare to my 4G:

1. I am surprised that the base 3G actually rides smoother and softer than my 4G FWD. The Michelin AS3 is actually an improvement over Pilot MXM4 or Primacy MXM4 in both ride/handling/quietness. At least from my experience.

2. The steering on the 3G is very nice and nicely weighted. Gives me the BMW feel.

3. The leather seats in the 4G Tech are much softer. Although this might be because of age.

4. The ELS in the 4G is a lot better.

5. The AC in the 3G is weaker and takes longer to cool down. We have quite a few 100oF days in Texas.

Final note: We were originally looking for 2010+ Honda Accord but most were asking 11-12K for the same mileage. Then there are savaged junks on craigslist. Then we came across the TL and got it eventually.

Happy to be on both 3G and 4G forums

Nice!

I'd like to see my dad pick up a 3G. He's still sporting a 200k mile Avalon and expressed quite a bit of interest in mine when I bought it.
