Need some help bad
I recently purchased an 05 RL the previous owner stated that the car has been sitting for well over a year and his wife had been driving it for a year before that so he didn’t know how well she maintained it. I’ve done the major tune up,breaks and tires, thermostat, radiator, control arms, tire rods, motor mounts, and after all that I was driving yesterday and the all of a sudden the car felt as if it was in neutral. When I turn the car off and on it will drive for a while and do the same and it does it in drive and reverse. I have to turn the car off and on again just to move a very short distance. I was reading a different thread for a TL and it was saying to change the transmission oil and filter does anyone think this will work for me and does the RL have an external transmission filter?

Changing to new Honda/Acura trans fluid would be a good start and as far as the external filter the RL is an internal filter

Filter is #3 on the list here but I'm not sure if it can be accessed externally.. THere is a cover so try and see if you can find it.
I'd replace fluid first to see if that fixes it..

so I took it to a transmission shop today to get it flushed and to put the new fluid in and they said that I need a new transmission and putting new fluid and filter would be a waste of money

Fluid/filter/flush = ~$100
New transmission = ~$2000
I wonder why they would say that

So you think it’s done too because I was
just going to have it towed some place else for the flush and new fluid I don’t want to keep driving on it if it’s not all the way gone

Another two things I’ve found out was my son accidentally put 87 in the tank and gave someone a jump I doubt either of these things would cause this reaction.

No worries about the 87 AKI fuel, a tank here and there will not in any way hurt the engine; assuming the jump start was done properly, that will have no effect on the car as well.

So I finally got the car towed to a different shop and had them drain and add new Acura transmission fluid I drove the car everything seemed fine for a full half hour and than it started to act up it didn’t completely stop moving like last time but I knew to stop as soon as it started slipping. At this point I guess it’s safe to assume I should get a new tranny. Any advice would be appreciated.

Search this forum for discussions related to swapping the "AV6" (Accord V6) transmission from 2006 and 2007 Honda Accords with V6 engines (not Hybrids).
