Well apparently the tire for that II chose and others have chose does not meet the weight rating for the CTS-V. Discount tire direct called me to tell me that and tried to help me find one. So far we were unsuccessful in that. So my trip next weekend will be without a spare using the can of slime and the pump if needed I guess. Hope that stuff actually works.

Also as of 3pm today this mess is finally over with. It is titled and registered. I drive it as much I want and not have to worry at all.

It was a mess though to get it all done today. Waited 45min at DMV to get to see someone. The ladt was extremely helpful though. Titled the car and everything but could only give me tla ten day temporary registration till I got it inspected. She told me though I could jump the line when I got back so she could get me finished and get my plate. That saved me more than an hour of having to wait in line a second time. Getting inspected though was a hassle as when I got there they told me it didn't need it. Went back to the DMV with that info and a shit of the inspection computer saying it was too early for inspection. Turns out they were doing it wrong and since I was a new owner they had to force it to allow a new inspection.

Thankfully though it is all behind me now and I get to enjoy it.

I'd vote nay on the slime. I've used it several times, it's hit/miss and it takes a long ass time to set, plus it's messy to clean up when you get it properly fixed. I'd get a plug kit with a full grip applicator and gouger. A plug will hold the life of the tire, but it's easy work to get a full patch and plug later. I had to plug the V the second week of ownership. The big ass tires pick up everything on the road.

My unsolicited advice is to thank Discount for the info and then ask them to put it all through anyway.

It's a spare, right? So it's for emergency limp mode to get the prime fixed, not for high speed 'ring runs...

Good enough is good enough. If you ever end up needing it, just take it nice and easy. Slime and a pump won't help a blowout. And small "inconvenience" leaks you can plug or just keep refilling until fixed.

Well I think the wheel from discount tire won't get here in time now. I am going to the local discount tire location near me and try and get the same thing and have them cancel my order I did online.

I do have a plug kit as well. I used it for the ISF twice.

Yeah Jack what joy to have it working in this shitty weather. I was so pissed when they told me I needed an inspection cause the car was sitting in the garage fully detailed staying clean and I had to take it out in this crap. I will have to wash and detail Tuesday or Wednesday night so it is clean for my road trip.

Do not use Slime! Not only does it not work most of the time, it's also extremely messy and tire repair guys hate it when they have to clean it out to do a proper tire repair. It can also screw with the TPMS (don't believe what the can says) and will throw the tire out of balance. We make a tire repair product that will safely repair most typical flats. Of course a blow out is not repairable, but nothing's going to fix that. Check out the link...

I keep these and a tire inflator in my and my wife's Rav, which does not have a spare because it comes with run flats from the factory.

The hole I had in my tire was big enough to stick the tip of RS143's peen in. Tire was completely flat in less than 1/2 mile on city street. It's more than just for inconvenience leaks. Certified fix is just a plug + patch. I think a plug is good enough especially if you glue it in. I've only had 1 plug out of dozens leak and it was because the tire was pretty much near the belt at that point.

So heads up guys getting a spare is going to be a lot harder than thought. Disocunttiredirect called and cancelled my order cause it does not meet load rating. Two different discount tires would not sell me the combo either. The one locstion told me they could sell me the wheel as one transaction and the tire as another but I would have to take it somewhere else to get it mounted.

It appears I will be making this trip with my trusty patch kit alone.

I fail to see why they won't sell you a wheel and a tire. Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned what car you were putting it on; simply said I need this tire mounted on this wheel, thanks.

Just ordered a better plug kit than my $7 one from Walmart that I actually used to plug a tire on the F and it has been in and not leaking for over 15k miles now. Order the same type of plug string that I had used from slime though.

I had to go back and check the specs.. load rating is 92. That's more than enough.. freaking 1,389 lbs. Wagon is only 4,400 lbs. Say you the wife and dogs are in the car with 200 lbs of gear.. that's roughly an additional 850 lbs.. putting you at 5,250. You're still able to carry 300 more lbs. Sounds like they're either dumb (likely) or trying to upsell you. Plus the load takes into consideration the speed rating iirc. I'm sure you won't be hauling 1,200 lbs of shit going 170 mph.

They won't sell you tire for a car unless it has equal specks to what the car came with.

Sounds like a lot of trouble to get a spare. I still have my Eurotek kit and it works fine. You just need to get a regular CTS spare and a spacer for cheap and be done with it. Plus, you won't have to hack up the cargo space and you can fit the stock subwoofer in it. The trick is to put the spare wheel with the outer-facing side down.

How do you put a spacer on the front of the car without having a second person? Unless I am missing some obvious solution to torquing down the spacer lugs I have always needed another person to press the brake pedal whileI I bolt them on my F.

Put a screwdriver in one of those slots that are all around the rotor and wedge it against a solid surface.

First road trip in the Vagon starts tomorrow. Doing about 1200 miles round trip over the next 4 days. Will be up by BlackAck and then about an hour out from neuronbob. Maybe if time I will see about a Vagon meet up.

First two tanks of highway only 18.2 and 18.4mpg. I could probably get even better if it didn't cruise so well at such insane speeds. I provably should say more than that other than I made it to my first nights destination way faster than expected.

Also driving the Vagon is like driving a super car when you stop. Just on this trip alone I have had 3 people come up to me when stopping to get gas to talk about it. That is more than I have ever had in a single trip in the F while it was fully modified.

Looks fucking fantastic Colt! I only take the V to my usual spots, so it's not out in the open all that often. But the best comment I got was from a dad packing in his boys in a SUV from a ball game. He was parked next to me and he exclaimed "Nice Ride!" I chuckled and said Thanks.. I've had a smoking hot babe check it out at the grocery store.. but the dad reaction was absolutely the best.

Well my first road trip in the Vagon is complete. At the end the trip tracking app said I did 1420 glorious, grinning, extremely fast, I am glad there is no video evidence or I would be in jail miles.

I love the exhaust and my suspension on the ISF but for long distance travel they just are not ideal. The magnetic suspensesion and the Corsa exhaust are just perfect for that. I am not sure I will end up changing the exhaust after all.

More to come later but now for some Beer dinner, and football this evening.

But isn't it crazy the attention you get? When I was at the station and took the pic I posted in my topic a guy with a Camaro ZL1 asked me if he could take a pic of it. The Porsche would get a lot of looks b/c it was a Porsche, but this thing seems to stir up reaction like no other. It's pretty wild.


I actually think I am changing my strategy as well for the car. Think I am going to keep the exhaust stock and just do intake/headers for now. I figure the headers are not much more than the exhaust and they provide actual gains... so will probably go that route. Not sure if I'll go Stainless Works or Kooks, but one or the other for sure. It will give me the sound I want for now with some gains, plus set me up for future upgrades . This is the video that sold me... especially the giggle at the end:

Wow that actually might sound even better than the Corsa exhaust. I wonder if doing headers with a Corsa exhaust still has no drone. Now you are putting more ideas in my head. I said I was happy with the performance and didn't need more. But that sound on the other hand.

From what I have read the header/exhaust combo can be loud. Some folks even think it's too loud and switch back to the stock exhaust. That's why I figured I could just keep the stock exhaust and do the headers only. From what I've heard that combo has no drone. I haven't read much on the header/exhaust combo and drone, but I would imagine with the Corsa it should be OK...

FYI, this guy actually has the Kooks headers. If you search his channel he also has several videos showing the sounds at different speeds from inside the cabin. Just be sure to look at the vids with the Kooks headers and stock exhausts b/c he did do more modifications as time went on...

Stock exhaust is the only factory part I don't have from the previous owner to put the car back to stock with.
