yeah, Pensacola, FL lol

It's hard to call it Florida though when Alabama is 10 mins away. Any of the tracks down by you are just too far for me to do in a weekend.

35lbs off the car for GOOD!

Just finished up the hangers for the new exhaust and it's officially done! Decided to keep the V2 J Pipe for now and from there, cut the flange of my test pipe and welded it to a new Magnaflow 4x9x14 muffler and from there I have 18 inches or so of pipe and then a 4" round Magnaflow to finish it off. I know its kinda a weird way to do it but I realized after doing some trial and error that just using "round", resonator type mufflers just wasn't going to tone down a catless engine enough. So just out of curiosity, I was measuring some things under the car and discovered that just behind the end of the J Pipe, kinda where the stock 3rd Cat would be, there actually is quite a lot of room there that I was just wasting with a bit of pipe before. So I picked up the 4x9 muffler and sure enough, with a offset inlet and center outlet, IT FIT FREAKING PERFECTLY! lol Wouldn't have ever believed it but I'd actually recommend this to others who are building custom exhausts. After that I just mounted up two new exhaust hangers and now it fits nice and tight and isn't ever going to go anywhere.

Sound wise, it's actually pretty darn good. I just got a new Sony Handycam so I'll try to get out this weekend and get a short vid of the sound for ya'll. But generally it's pretty acceptable, especially for a race car.

Weight is just over 20lbs. And really most of that is the 4x9 Magnaflow, but it's kinda necessary to keep it somewhat civilized while on track.

Only thing I would like to add is a mandrel bent turn down at the back end. I'm in the process of locating one now but after that it'll be done.

Washed, Clay Bared, and waxed the car today and thought I'd snap a few pics of the car as it'll be at Road Atlanta next weekend.

And just cuz I think it's funny and my vinyl guy did it free for me...

The simple truth is that it's great on the track. The power is well suited for the chassis and the LSD is worth it's weight in gold. The only thing that sets the car back is that it's FWD but I just cater my driving style to that and It's fantastic.

How's that for an explanation?

PS - A stock weight of 3500lbs is pretty good IMO, I'm pretty sure even the new G37 coupe/sedans are BOTH 3800+. And besides, as we can see, stock curb weight means nothing!
Good for you for doing something kind of different. I mean, if you've got the money, more power to ya.

Because I still had the car on the trailer today I decided to have it weighed being I had removed a bunch of stuff since it's last weigh in. Most notably the nav unit and the new exhaust. Car still had some gas in it so I subtracted the approximate weight of that so I could have a really good idea of what the car itself weighs in at.

drum roll please......

2700 lbs

Yep, 2700lbs even! I'm obviously pretty impressed and just as motivated to keep it going! Still running a pretty heavy wheel setup and can always pull out the passenger seat for a quick/easy 20 lbs out of the car.

Your car is exactly 1,000lbs lighter than mine without me in it. That must be a lot of fun. Mine was 3,920 with me in it.

Track I'll be running is Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan ( http://www.gingermanraceway.com] ) for a CGI run driving school. Going with a buddy who drives a 2007 WRX.

I'm driving a 2004 6-speed. Has a new clutch this year, and 2 month old Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's on Type-S wheels. This will be my first track experience, and I'm doing a oil change and brake fluid change tomorrow.

lol my old team was just at Gingerman last month (see link in sig). It's a fun track and would be a good track to learn on because it's fairly technical and really make you learn the line and build confidence in your driving ability.

Your tires should be ok for the event. Really watch your cold/hot tire pressures. I'd probably set a cold pressure around 34/35psi and expect hot pressures to be around 40psi or so. but maybe play with it a little bit and see if something else works better for you.

Brake fluid - I would definitely make sure they put in a DOT4 fluid for you. Little higher boiling points than DOT3 and the system doesn't care so opt for that.

Brakes - what pads you running on the brembos? Stock or something else?

Have you done the slave cylinder check valve delete? This really helps shifting on the track and I love having mine out. Any other mods or is the car pretty much stock?

nevermind, for some reason I missed your signature before. So I'm assuming you have the Rotora BBK?

Thought about ditching some easy weight before the track day? back seat and spare tire, etc would be an easy ~100 lbs off the car.

Believe me, you don't HAVE to do much to your car to have a blast on the track with it, I'm just trying to point out some little things that might make all the better for you.

Make sure your VSA is off on track, trust your LSD with your life lol and have fun!

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Rotoras hold up on the track and see if it compares to my experience.... I won't say my opinion until the race happens. I'm assuming it's the 13" 2pc slotted and drilled kit with H2 pads? If it's just Rotora H2 pads on Brembos, you might have issues.

Not Rotora BBK, but rotora slotted rotors and ceramic pads all around, all less than a year old. have a nice tire pressure gauge so already on top off the cold-ish pressures I need and not concerned much about that.

these are my summer wheels, so not concerned about pushing them to the limit, since come winter, I will be on fresh(ish) rubber.

Plan on removing spare tire, and the driving school requires removing everything from the vehicle, even including floormats and glove cmprnt, so I should be close to factory weight.

Dont think I will do the slave cyl delete quite yet, because I havent researched it much, and with a week to go, have minimal time to get used to it...

pardon the shitty post, tis 'merica's weekend.

Totally man. Mind if I ask you what a "nice tire pressure gauge" is? Is it a Longacre or something comparable? Cuz believe me, if you're looking to continue these in the future, I wouldn't settle for anything less.

Brake setup sounds ok, I would be cautious/aware on the ceramic pads though. They build a lot of heat into the rotors rather quickly. I'm not sure how long your sessions will be but I personally wouldn't stretch them any longer than 15-20mins and that includes a slower warmup and slow cool lap on every session. If longer than that, I would throw in a cooler/slower lap every 5-6 laps just to make sure you don't over cook the brakes.

What size tires you running?

The slave cylinder is just a optional luxury really. I did my first couple track days with it in and you just have to be aware of how it impedes your shifting but no big deal.

Getting started with the next little project on the car. ditching the stupid stock wheel so something better in pretty much every way. I don't know about you, but I've always hated the 04-06 stock steering wheel. The 4 spokes are all terribly place and the whole thing feels too big for my liking. So, I'll be changing it out for good. Also took the liberty of removing some of the crap left over from the Airbag system and what I believe is the turn signal stopper thing. Not too much in the form of weight loss but in every other way it's a great improvement.

I plan on swapping out for a different wheel on somewhat of a budget. I don't really think I need a quick release setup, it'd be nice and somewhat of a luxury but I'm just going to keep it simple. So, going with a MOMO hub and probably an NRG suede wheel. Just ordered the hub today and will get the wheel soon so it should be a quick and easy ridding of the crap stock steering wheel.

Couple pics of the stock removal - apparently I was right next to the sun when I took these pics lol... ooops.

The difference in steering feel was more than I expected when changing to a racing wheel. I went with mugen/momo wheel and works bell hub and quick release. The ones made for the s2k, rsx etc fit.

yep I went with an RSX one I found online. There should be an instant and long over due improvement with the new one on. I don't want to go too small on the new wheel being it would probably cut off my view of the tach but I think a 320mm wheel or so should be ok.

Little update for ya'll, just I'm bored at work and have nothing better to do. Got the Momo hub in the other day and got that all fitted up and looks like it'll work great. Steering wheel should be ordered this week, probably going for a 320mm Suede NRG wheel, but not sure yet.

Next project- Finish the rear diffuser and do some cheap and simple underbody panels to help reduce the drag underneith the car. Cuz with the lack of a full length exhaust and some other things that are now extinct, there are a ton of areas underneith the car that would pretty much act like a parachute at higher speeds. here are some pics of the gaping holes there now. This one is right in front of the fuel tank.

Yeah I reinstalled it when I finished the new exhaust just until I can ensure it'll be completely safe under there. Plus with this panel in there I'm most likely pulling it again cuz it should be completely protected.

Got the NRG suede steering wheel installed yesterday. Feels amazing and is just slightly smaller than the stock wheel so it "should" make the steering feel a bit firmer/tighter as well.
