J37 engine issue question, fix, may buy a ZDX

Hi all, a friend of mine has a family member who may sell his Acura ZDX, 2012 with decent miles. He hasn’t done any major work or recall stuff to the car and is unaware of the issues with j37 and oil burn due to the rings…

with the car being this old but having about 70k miles on it, I’m worried about getting it and then having to do this major repair. Is it a norm or given that this repair neeeds to be done ? Worried about buying it and having to do major work. I already know with the age I will need to do the timing in the next year or so, and change the fluids….

did Honda/Acura make this a recall or was it on a case by case basis and now the vehicle will be out of any repair related to this issue if it does burn oil. He never checks it just gets it serviced regularly. Any input would be appreciated of fixing the rings being something that should be done no matter what.

The oil burning du or effect all ZDX’s. Mine is 2010 with 77,000 miles and mine doesn’t burn oil and I plan to do timing belt next year but I don’t see the risk here because these cars are low maintenance and reliable and you will have to do the belt and to ease your mind have Acura check it out before buying but that’s low miles so you shouldn’t have any issues. Stuff your naming are maintenance that we all do on any car.
