'10-'11 Tranny "Judder" TSB

I got a letter yesterday saying I need to bring in my ZDX for a software update due to a possible tranny judder/vibration from 20-60 mph. When I called the service department they told me I need to have the tranny fluid replaced and then a software update, which all together will be a 2 hour fix. The letter also said if I didn't get it fixed the judder could damage the tranny. They said they will also do the "Low Battery" TSB while I had it in.

I had the software update for the battery TSB done a month ago even though I haven't had any issues. They phoned and asked me to come in for the transmission software upgrade, so we are taking it in Friday. They said it wouldn't take long and didn't say anything about changing the transmission fluid. I will need to ask them about that. i haven't noticed any transmission judder myself, have you?

Did they mention if the problem was with all 2010 ZDX or only some of them?

No judder/vibration per se, but I have noticed some rough shifts lately and some slipping like in the old days when the bands needed adjustment in transmissions. I will mention the issues when I take it in. The 90 mile round trip to my dealership is a pain to say the least.

they said some not all but if i'm not mistaken the letter said even if you don't feel any judders to still bring it in and let them check it out anyway.

I got the software update for the tranny this morning even though my Z had no tranny problems. They changed the transmission fluid along with the software update. It took about 1- 1/2 hours but I also had the B16 service done as I have 13.3K miles. Cost of the B16 service was $169.

I don't have judders but I my trans does surge on light accelleration between 20 to 60 mph. The tach goes up and down between 2000 and 3000 until it switches to a lower gear or I force the change. I think thats what this recall is designed to fix. I know the MDXs' were having the same problem. I wonder if they got the same tsb.

I received both letters as well. At my last service, even before the first notice came out, the service department of Hendrick Acura here in Charlotte took care of the battery issue. Friday I took the car in for the "judder" (a word that I have never before heard); they took care of the problem in about an hour, draining and refreshing the transmission fluid and doing whatever was done to the computer governing the automatic transmission. It does seem to drive more smoothly since the latest work.

Technically it's not a recall, but if it looks like a duck . . . .

I've noticed our 2010 does judder/shudder just a bit. I figured it was the tire pressure(s) and I need to get in to have the TSB done.

I got the battery and transmission TSBs/recalls done yesterday. The service writer said the tranny fluid looked good, which I assume means there was no damage. I wonder what they would have done if there was metal particles in the fluid? I was in and out in less than 2 hours.

P.S. I talked to my salesperson friend about the upcoming RLX and it looks like it will be my next Acura come January. I did not like the "about $60K" price tag though for the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD model. Oh, he told me my ZDX with 9,500 miles is only worth about $38K now due to lack of demand (more like no demand), and he would be lucky to get $40 for it.

I do recall getting the jubber going in stop and go traffic on the highway during rush hour. Seems to occur more when you are on and off the gas pedal and the transmission is shifting back and fourth through the gears with a judder.

Please start a new thread. This is an interesting thought. Going to the new flagship I mean.

I thought of doing the same thing too.

Sandro. I believe all 10-12 ZDX have the issue. TSBs sometimes don't show up in certain places because they are not recalls. They flushed my ATF and did the battery management upgrade.

Hawaii, While I was there, they had a 10 ZDX with less than 20k on it - black tech and the were asking 39+k for it. They're still getting money for it $$.

thanks. Really nice to know.

Finally got around to getting this tsb done.

My car had the judder. It's completely gone now. I can't beleive that the computer update could fix the problem I was feeling.

The car actually feels more powerful than before.

Everytime I take my car in I get a service loaner (2012 tsx tech white / blk this time) so not sure how long it acually took.

Wish they could have figured out this problem sooner but oh well all good now.

How did that judder actually look and feel like? I bet my ZDX would fall under this TSB if it still was in the USA, but I don't really notice any abnormal tranny behavior that I never experienced on my other cars.

mine was more of a surge. at about 50 to 60mph under light acceleration the trans would stay in 6th gear and rpm would surge up and down about 500 rpm. it was like the torque converter was engaging and disengaging continuously untill i pressed the gas hard enough to create a gear change or let go to coast.

now the car downshifts instead of holding the high gear.

there are youtube videos of mdx with this problem online.

hope this helps sandro.

Do you have hondas in russia? Maybe a honda dealer can perform the update.

Yeah there are plenty of Honda dealers and I'm sure they would do it, but I would have to pay for it

My up shifts from 1 to 2 to 3 were not smooth. Even the wife noticed it. Down shifts were fine though. After the software up grade it felt better. Try to monitor up shifts under normal driving circumstances, and compare the first 2 shifts to the last 2-3, I bet you will see the difference.

Transmission and low battery TSB #s

Sandro,
The TSB for the transmission is:12-007 and the low battery warning TSB(which was in the same letter from Acura) is:11-033. Hope this helps.
