Wow claying works wonders!

I was washing the TSX before a buddy came over to detail our cars. I gave it a really good washing and then clay bar'd it. Holy crap! I've always kept the car in good condition but I usually don't have time, space or equipment to do a full detail. Anyways this was just from the roof , the rest of the panels weren't bad though.

This is what happens when you have to park outside near a factory and then move to the beach .

We spent about 12 hours on my car and about a 95% paint correction on it, it looks amazing. I was planning on doing a full write up but we were crunched for time trying to do two cars before the rain started.

You can see the TSX parked in the garage looking shiny while the Type-R was getting polished.

btw Meguiar's 105/205, 3M glaze and synthetic sealant with the right pads and a Porter Cable can do miracles. I'll post pics once the rain passes and I can detail the interior.

FYI, please remove your avatar picture as that is not your property. That is my friend Mark's car and he would not appreciate you using his pictures.

It is good to clay your car at least once a year to get rid of the fallout and road grime off it.

Clay is a miracle worker, even on glass. I clayed my Santa Fe back in June and did it again last weekend to throw on another coat of sealant as the car was not beading the way I wanted.

This came off the rear window ALONE. And my car is garaged!

They do not remove oxidation but they do remove road tar, environmental fallout and other not-so-niceties. In order to remove oxidation, the car must be properly polished.

so if if i'm getting this correctly, clay barring helps to enhance the gloss when you wax your car since the smoother the surface, the better the gloss, right? my car still feels pretty smooth and it's been about 5 months since i last clay barred it. I'll probably wait till the summer or then to clay bar again.

What's the best brand of clay? I've used Turtle Wax ICE clay and I thought it was pretty good.

i used megs as well. afaik, there's different aggressiveness ratings on clays. most OTC clays are very mild and will not swirl up your paint if using clay lube. some professional clays are very aggressive and will swirl up your car even with the lube.

No. Clay does not help to improve the glossiness of paint in any way. It is a safe method of removing contamination from the surface of the vehicle to properly prepare it for polishing and paint correction. But because of the lack of contamination, your LSPs will stick around longer than they would had you not clayed.
