Question Winter Storm Leaves Scratch

I need help in locating a product that will get rid of a scratch that my car suffered in yesterdays winter storm. It occurred when a plastic barrel became airborne and scuffed the side of the driver's door. I don't have any pictures, but it looks like most of it should polish away. I don't know too much about paint or the modern processes of dealing with it. My first question is are all scratch removers the same? I suspect not, but I really don't know. I had intended on washing and waxing my car this weekend, but now it seems that the temperatures will not be warm enough to attempt a waxing. I have some old GS 27 scratch remover, but I don't know if there might be something better for me to use out there. I got some really good advice from you guys before, so I know I'm in good hands...

Dug, give what you have a shot! Just make sure you seal it up afterwards. Apply with foam applicator or microfiber towel, rub in the directions of scratches....

Thanks, exceldetail. I guess the proper protocol is wash/dry first and then apply scratch remover? I had hoped to wax, but as I said, temperatures won't allow that. You mention sealing after. I should do this even though I'm not sealing the entire car? Is there a product you can recommend that I might find at an Autozone (perhaps Meg's NXT as advised on another thread?). Thanks again for all your help...

Well, yes, wash and dry would be proper! I did a PC demo today and just QD'd, so if weather permits, by all means wash. I wouldnt hesitate to wax aferwards, as long as its not freezing outside. Wipe on and wipe off is better then nothing post polish. NXT would be a good sealant, albeit not long lasting, better then nothing. Good luck !
